Probably no Hoo reporters bothered to go which also bothered her?

VCU Women’s coach just got let go mid-season.

Women outscoring Miami 13-1 in Q3 to retake the lead in a must-win game.

That win gets us to 16-7, still in the NCAAT hunt, though I think still on the wrong side of the bubble. Probably need to get to 20 wins (including ACCT) to make the cut?

Yeah, I’m thinking 20 as well. 4 to go, and on paper this was probably the easiest game we had left.

Does this team have a marque win? or is it just rack up some wins get to 20 and hope for the best.

No marquee wins. Given the upcoming schedule, to get to 20 we probably get one. Probably. Our remaining 6 games are three Quad 1 and three Quad 2. So we could win the Q2s and a first round ACCT game and hit 20 with still no Q1 wins.

Oh, I was thinking 20 would let us crash and burn in the ACC tournament and maaaaaaybe still sneak in as a 12-seed or something. If we’re including the ACCT, then more like 21, or even 22 if an ACCT win is over like SMU or something.

Best win was probably over a pretty good, but not tournament-level, Clemson at home by 10.

ND was ranked for most of the season and is well-regarded, but they’re reeling lately and beatable (I haven’t checked, but we’re probably 2-3 point dogs at home), and actually below us in the ACC standings now. That game is probably the season. If we lose badly, we could absolutely lose out the season because every game the rest of the way is 50/50 or worse.

But if we win, then we’ll get a marquee win (more or less) and we’ll head out on the West Coast trip with a bunch of confidence. In that case, I like our chances of sweeping Cal and Stanford, and we’ll just need to beat VT at home to feel good about things.

Surprised me a lot to see Johnson set the all time team single season record with 71 threes this season.
I mean have we really been that devoid of shooting talent all these years?
71??? I mean sheesh.

P.s the top 100 list nationally ends at 107 in a season.

That ND team is so strange. I was at the GT game over Christmas when the wheels came off and they have not recovered. That’s definitely a winnable matchup with the Hoos size inside being able to clog the driving lanes.

I have heard that Hidalgo (sp?) is something of a cancer - that lots of players have left the program/mailed it in over her antics.

Yeah, that sounded like a beef with that one reporter. His questions didn’t sound unreasonable on the surface; but she refused to engage with a thoughtful answer, but then gave a more thoughtful answer to a similar question asked by someone else.

Pretty cringy press conference though.

I’m thinking 3-3 in the regular season plus 1-1 in the ACCT… for a 20-11 record… would put us in ā€œlast four in / first four outā€ territory. One more win above that bar would lock it up, but we could slip in at 20-11.

I’d say ā€œwe’ll find outā€ā€¦ but we might well finish 2-4 or worse and will only ā€œfind outā€ that that’s not good enough.

The most recent ESPN bracketology (Friday morning) has the Hoos as the first team out.

Stanford, Bass Tech, and Clemson are among the last eight teams in, so Virginia can control its own fate to an extent in remaining game against the Cardinal and Bass Tech. And whatever happens in the ACC Tournament.

Amanze goes for 18 and 8

For three quarters, that was the best we’ve looked all season (led by 19 after Q3). Shows what we’re capable of. Q4 was rough but 11-point victory anyway.

Our new best win of the year! If we just can keep playing like that…

Edit: Amanze went for 14 and 3. Close, @DavetheWave. Kinda.

Good win. Not an easy stretch the rest of the way, but the ladies pretty much control their own destiny as far as making the tourney. We were Bracketology’s first team out before today.
