I’ve been thinking and saying that Jan is more of a break glass in case of emergency add - but may have to eat those words if Odom is making a point to call him out

I’m guessing your take is correct but Odom is praising him so that he continues to stay motivated in what will be a niche role

I’ve been on an island here, but I think Jan is going to consistently play real minutes. Chance isn’t playing 40 minutes a game, and while some of the other guards we brought in can play make, I think Jan is going to end up running the point a decent amount when Chance is off the floor. He’s a veteran playmaker on a team with just one true PG. But who knows.

Yeah I agree. He’s gonna get more than we thought

I just look in what they invested in certain players vs. Vide… and he really is no threat as an outside shooter and is solid but not exciting in other areas (nice floater, though).

There’s more upside in other options if they can get there. IMO, if Jan plays significant time, it’s probably more of a reflection on other players not being ready yet. So many more questions this offseason than previous ones.

But, like - good questions, I think - because the odds are that there are answers to most questions on the roster.

Perhaps a slightly hot take but with there only being so many athletes that are worth the big bucks, I wonder if the quality of schools in the ACC is why the number could be lower, especially with the schools we have at the bottom.

Like for the guys that are only going to play college basketball and nothing else really after am I taking $750k from Stanford/Cal/BC or $1.25M from Mississippi State?

Would want to see those numbers go up but doesn’t surprise me that the comparable conference is the Big 12 and that the ACC is behind it in spend.

Soooo does this mean Dallin is a Hoo again?

So valid question. Would we bring back any of these seniors that would come back or any in the portal or are we done regardless?

I think we are probably done, regardless:

  • I think our roster is literally full. Odom doesn’t strike me as the kind of coach who would push a guy out, but I guess you never know. Maybe Owen Odom or one of the newer two guys get pushed to manager without too much fuss. I suppose that’s possible.
  • Ugo signed a 2-way contract with Detroit. I assume that makes him ineligible, but to be fair, I assumed until yesterday that deciding when new eligibility rules go into effect is not an antitrust violation, so what do I know.
  • Any Dallin rumors seem to be about BYU or Utah schools? Plus I do think bringing him back might undermine the leap we want Chance to take…
  • The major positional gap we have IMO is back-up center. Not sure who’s available there who wouldn’t be a shoe-in somewhere else (I assume Jalen Washington back to Vandy?) or is worth pissing off Ibe.

Excellent summary. I do think Ugo would be a possibility and a need. Would guess we could still pay more than a two way. With DSA I’d assume a spot is there.

UGO in the NBA helps Coach Odom and the brand.

I’d take tillis back for hype man and that’s about it. Give chance the keys and let the others grow!

I don’t think Tillis is class of 22?

Im saying if he was. I really don’t want anyone back and want to move forward with what he have!

I’m honestly sort of willing to piss of Ibe with Landoure theoretically in the boat behind him.

I’m not super interested in Dallin even if it would probably make the team better. I’d rather have him than Vide, but I don’t know if that’d be the option available. Seems more likely he’d eat Chance and the new guards’ minutes, not shoot, and frustrate the board. I am bullish on Dixon, Harmon, and Nolan to improve on the scoring and defense he provided. Will miss the ballhandling and leadership, but hopefully we have leadership covered, and I think we can recreate the ballhandling in the aggregate. But anyways seems like we might already have too many bodies, and I think Dallin is definitely headed back to the Beehive State if he plays.

Ugo on the other hand… That would make me really start eying the natty.

It is… interesting.. that probably our two weakest rotation spots of backup PG/non-Chance ballhandler and backup center are spots that could be filled by our two in theory 5-in-5 guys from last season.. I do not think this is the case, but it would be a bit of tactical brilliance from the staff if they had an eye on the possibility of something like this and could immediately fill the need with returners. Even just Ugo would be a coup.

But in practice I think our roster is too full and Ugo and Dallin are unlikely to return to Charlottesville even if allowed.

The most unfortunate part of all of this to me is how much this appears to help Will Wade. I’m sure other guys have spots, but I feel like he could land 2 or 3 of these guys. Any updates on the RJ Luis situation?

Yeah, basically agree. Hall brings marginal upside and some potential downsides. Ugo is a no-brainer, but I’m pretty sure an NBA contract is still a red line, so I wouldn’t put too much into that particular idea.

And yes, this seems pretty good for Will Wade. So there we go. Thank you very much Colorado District Court judge Sweeney. You really did a solid for Will Wade and for Reid Bailey. What a great day for college hoops

If we have any money left over (and if the people on here claiming TDR and Grünloh are only making like 2M each are right we better have money left over) we need to grab another big. I don’t like Anya/Barksdale/Ibe splitting backup five minutes. An injury to Grünloh essentially tanks the season.

Judge clarified her injunction. Tweet thread worth a look if you want to know what’s going on. Per this guy’s analysis of it, the roster and rev share limits are still in place.

So unless Odom decided to push guys off the roster (I tend to doubt it), we are frozen in place.

It also doesn’t add another transfer window, so if a guy didn’t enter the transfer portal, and there are no spots left at his original school … well then I’ll let you join the twitter lawyers to figure out whether this applies to grad transfers.

Except of course for the plaintiffs in the state lawsuits in Ohio and NC and I forget where else where the judges did explicitly say that there was another transfer window.

Everyone clear? Good. great. wonderful.

Man, what a cluster. That said it MIGHT work out good for us. With DSA we’d have room and could of course find some NIL if needed.
