2nd Spring Live Period Recap

Really? Wow. Maybe the 1-2-3 thing was ESPN’s rankings.

Baker was like #50 or so, IIRC.

Or Brandon Ingram.

My apologies for any part I unintentionally played in encouraging Puke 🤮 discussion by trying to disprove unnecessary and inaccurate Puke 🤮 hype.

I think the jury is still out on dook, as we have no idea how Scheyer is going to coach and he “shouldn’t” have the same terror and intimidation that Rat-fink had on the refs. I think that Hubert had a good year, with some luck as well, but he’s more proven than Scheyer. Our games against them this year during our WORST season in a while I think were an aberration… with that said Wakeforest was surprising and if they continue to recruit transfers that well they could make some noise, although we had that game won… Notre Dame was surprising this year, but they also had a lot of seniors and maybe fifth years- though that bullshit ass reffing cost us that game in Indiana. Miami also had a good year, but they also had a lot of 4th and 5th years, but we swept them. FSU is regularly good, but we were bad this year and still should have won that game, but they will be full strength next year.

For me Hubert is all in at being the UNC coach and he is gonna do great. Seems to be all about the kids and in this era in college basketball that works as long as he gets his players all bought in.

Absolutely. He’s off to a great start and is a quality coach. However, I dunno if he’ll match up to Roy. Which is no slight, Roy is probably in the top 10 ever.

Its funny to me cause I have no clue what made Roy a great coach. Literally cannot point to one thing and I love the guy

Are we sure Hubert isn’t Kevin Ollie? That team was mediocre all year

I hate to say this but NBA defenses couldn’t stop Zion either when he played.

He may surpass Roy at UNC. Hubert can recruit and he can coach.

3 national titles is an almost impossible bar. Hubert will basically have to be top 5 all time to surpass Roy.

One huge difference is Hubert is almost universally liked. Half of Ollie’s problem was he was difficult to work with. But to your point, no, we can’t be certain about how good of a coach Hubert is yet.

Roy recruited some likeable Heels. F that.

Also, isn’t Davis the coach that said his team “wasn’t good enough” the same year they went to the championship game? Probably just post game motivation, but they didn’t look all that great early on.

Quote I don’t love: “I want to hear from the blue bloods, any and all of them,” Dilione said. “Right now, only Kentucky has reached out to me; they were just checking up and let me know they would be watching.”

Quotes I do love:

Virginia: “I learned a lot about the history behind the program. Coach Tony Bennett was a real cool dude; he impressed me a lot on the visit. They went through clips on how my game fits with what they do, playing in ball screens and bringing the ball up in transition. It made sense; I can see myself fitting in with them.”

“I want to narrow things down after the summer,” Dilione said. That isn’t final yet, but that is what we’re thinking. (leaves the possibility of an early pop to the Hoos open)

“On these visits, I’ll be looking at the coaching staff, how much time they spend with you, and the resources they put for you. Of course, I want to see what the facilities look like and if they are a winning program. I just want to look for somewhere that feels like family.”

Helps that Kentucky is all in on DJ Wagner right now, UNC and Duke have their pgs, Kansas has other priority targets. Alabama and Houston will be a pain in the ass but proximity to home and playing in the ACC can’t hurt on top of his seeing the fit here.

I read that earlier. I didn’t like the blue blood comment either .I got the feeling this one may drag on more than we would like

Definitely a contender for that kind of recruitment. I selfishly want us to throw an offer out to Elmarko Jackson (they could play well together if we got Dilione as well like Brogdon/Devon/LP or Guy/Jerome/Kihei).

Yeah that blue blood comment is kind of the death knell for me. Only hope is none of them end up interested, but that’d probably require him playing terribly this summer.

I’m not going to get my hopes even slightly up, although I think the PG spot we’re selling is as attractive an opportunity as anywhere - so I guess you never know.

If no one else jumps in for Freddie, we get him against his current field. If Kentucky misses out on DJ Wagner and doesn’t goes portaling or UCLA misses out on its 5 stars and comes calling, well… it will be a fight (with UCLA. Not Kentucky LOL).

Watching Elmarko Jackson highlights, and came across this inexcusable defense by Isaac McKneely. Please someone show this to Tony so he can appropriately reprimand Isaac. (timestamped)

I think what helps us is other schools’ emphasis on the portal. Fills up and crowds the other schools
