Gritty comeback win for Duke. Good experience for them to face this kind of tough competition early in the season, will pay dividends later.
N.C. State blows a nice lead against BYU. NCSU’s defense again looks awful. (Nice game for Morsell though.) Will Keatts be gone after this season?
I will say, BYU is legit. Top 10 in kenpom and shoot lights out.
All jokes aside I’ll believe Tony takes an Otz transfer when I see it. Dude is in the Bennett family coaching tree
Oh yeah I know. But I hope Tony sees it as the greater good. The joy he could bring to the Wisconsin blood by making Momcilovic an NBA player. Or some narrative like that
If we are to believe Tony convinced Tyrese Hunter to stay with Iowa State the first go around (before he transferred to Texas after) then yeah its bleak. But people grow and change
Not even necessarily about Tony’s willingness to take them. Just a kid leaving Otz probably isn’t looking to go to Tony. Most likely looking for more of a different environment and system. Idk I find it unlikely that needle of ‘Tony takes a kid from a coach his father mentored’ and ‘kid is looking for a slightly different version of Otz’ ever gets threaded
I was just hoping that Iowa State is just dogshit enough that he is also wanting a chance of scenary. Ames is much more palatable when you are on a good team. And we would have a Hauser sized hole on next year’s roster. (although controversially, he might be better than Hauser in terms of his bag/skillset).
They looked pretty awful last night and their pg play is atrocious. I think we do a better job of generating open 3s for stretch 4s.
Don’t get me wrong I’d love to have a stretch 4 that is as offensively skilled as Milan with 3 years of eligibility. Just see it as more ‘dream recruit’ territory than realistic target even if he does transfer. Bet he’d go to a blue blood or at least Michigan State type of borderline blue blood
I notice that ESPN Analytics has VT with an almost 60% chance of beating the Owls. Doesn’t feel right to me, but do I have to vote for VT? I know it would be good for the ACC, but t’s so hard!
The line though is FAU -3.5. Seems pretty reasonable. Still don’t want to vote for VT.
A couple of the analytics services are weirdly high on Tech so far.
Really good shooters, well run offense, and a really really good win over Iowa State. Tech is going to be good this year (
)
Go Owls!
I don’t think tech is very good but they’re kinda getting a dream draw here as far as resume building goes. FAU is missing 2 of its best players. Iowa state is overrated and played like crap.
Could be 2 Q1 wins because tech got hot for a weekend
They’re not much different than last year. They’ll go as far as Pedulla and Cattoor take them. Both are playing unsustainably high minutes.
They’ve cleaned up in non conference every year under Young but struggle in ACC play.
Yeah, I thought if anything, they’d be worse. They brought back Cattoor and Pedulla but lost Mutts and Basile. Were Nickel and Beran their major additions? I haven’t been following too closely.
Still too early to tell. Kidd has emerged for them but he’s probably not an upgrade over Basile. Beran is a downgrade from Mutts.
Outside of Pedulla Cattoor and Kidd they are pretty weak. They need Nickel to emerge and he played well so far this tourney. Still, same team as in past years that schemes up good looks but struggles against athletic teams.
Have shot well in their two games this tourney and Iowa State couldn’t buy one. They are perfectly capable of stealing some games
So basically they’ve had the opposite holiday tournament experience as us.
Yes basically. But I will simply not accept them being a better team after last nights atrocity.
I will be praying extra hard on their downfall in basketball. Sad part of that statement is that I don’t think a majority of their fans even care about the sport
Haha, it seems like our fan bases are mirror opposites of one another then!
VT is the same deal as they’ve always been under Young, albeit with a bit older roster but the personnel is pretty much the same. A bunch of guards who can really shoot it and are fast but not overly athletic, a couple of 4’s that have to anchor the defense, a 5 that can score in the post, and too few wings at their disposal to bring any major versatility to what they’re running.
They will give us trouble because their DHO action on the perimeter is inherently tough for the pack line defense to guard unless you’re really sound on-ball, but I don’t see them being a top 4 ACC team or anything like that this year. They’ll still struggle heavily to stop quicker, more athletic guards from creating off the dribble and keeping good offensive rebounding teams off the glass, and it’ll continue to be a problem until Young starts to recruit better players.
