Despite the loss, Louisville went from 172 to 144 on KenPom and Texas fell from 20 to 25. A loss, but still a solid day’s work.
Could be argued that Tony is giving this team more offensive freedom even if greener behind their ears as a response to feedback from the past few years and from assistant coaching input. Definitely more flexibility. even on the wisconsin boards their fans notice how much more lenient Tony is with the packline this year letting players gamble a little more going for steals and jamming the passing lanes. We are even sagging on some of the screens; still hard hedging though as well.
Yeah Buchanan is probably really good for us long run. I dont think we disagree there. You even have Brogdon and Hunter talking about how restrictive it can be playing for UVA at times; I dont think that’s too controversial a take. As well as players overthinking their offense and hesitating/not playing confidently in March. I think it was a trend even @HoozGotNext noticed. Also no coincidence that the year we won the natty we had 3 guys who were uber confident right out of HS and could get theirs regardless.
In honor of my wife looking over my shoulder at my spreadsheet, asking me what I was working on, me answering, and her giving me a long “I married you, I guess I’m stuck with you” look, I’d like to inform everyone that UVA’s regular lineup is tied for 4th tallest in the ACC.
To clarify, this is based on minutes played so far (though I included iMAC for UVA, presuming he’ll be back soon-ish) rather than starts. If minutes played was close, I’d give the nod to the player with more starts, but if one player was averaging 20 mpg and another was at 25, I went with the 25 mpg guys even if the other fellow had started every game. Heights and minutes played are both from KenPom.
Tallest team in the ACC this season, by far, is FSU. No 7-footers among top 5 players for them, but the average height of 6’8" is pretty remarkable. Pitt is a distance second, averaging 6’6.8", then Louisville at 6’6.6" and UVA and Clemson are tied at 6’6.4".
Shortest team is ND at 6’3.8" (exactly the same height as UVA’s last year end-of-season lineup with BVP at the 5), then Miami at 6’4.2". Shockingly enough, UNC is 3rd at 6’4.8", then Wake and VT are tied at 6’5.4".
Just to be thorough, the middle 4 teams are GT and Cuse tied at 6’5.8" and Duke and BC are tied at 6’6.2". For random notes, only Duke and BC have 7’ regular players, and only ND has a regular under 6’. GT has by far the least height variance as 4 of their 5 regulars are either 6’6" or 6’7" (plus the 6’3" Sturdivant).
Every team’s 4 is 6’7" to 6’9" except FSU (6’10") and ND (6’4"). 3 was the position with the least height variance, 6’4" to 6’8" (4" range), 5 was 2nd least (6’7" to 7’, 5"), and then 1/2/4 all had 6" variances thanks to ND (shortest regular player, Markus Burton, 5’11") and UNC with the shortest guard tandem in the league.
Your wife is a saint.
She is, because it took a long time for me to realize other people don’t get excited about stuff like changes in volatility of food prices or basketball statistical minutiae.
But you guys are!
Haha, I’m glad somebody else gets that look too!
Agree with all of this. My question is how much of the freedom is people not locked into “roles” yet given their newness?
I hope it keeps up. Need that looseness for March. Wanna see Rohde lean more into it too.
She may want to rethink that conclusion
Why? That kinda thinking holds societies together.
True, but so is the ability to differentiate between accurate and relevant.
Ron Sanchez impact? Maybe Ron reminded Tony how things actually were from 14/19 was not the exaggerated version of Bennett ball we had become the last few years? Tony had started to believe his own stereotype a bit and Ron reminded him he used to be more flexible
Or could just be a response to having more guard talent again
4 minutes into the Maui Classic and there’s s stoppage while the officials figure out which 3-point line on the court is the college line. haha November basketball.
Man Knetch is good for UT. I was hoping Rohde would be a poor mans Knetch. Still time
Watching Syracuse-Tennessee. Syracuse absolutely stunk it up last 8-9 possessions to end the first half. Couldn’t build on a 3 point lead.
They need some in bounds plays. watched at least 3 possessions where they either turned it over on in bounds or it was so disjointed after getting it in that their shot was poor quality. You can tell they have some talent though.
Just doin a box score watch, but Mintz is 1-9 from Two, and 2-5 from the FT line. Oof.
Things getting away from Cuse here at the end. But they played well today. Seems like a team that can play. Certainly won’t be a cakewalk.
(Don’t know what that performance against Colgate was about lol)
Was just watching Josh Pastner sitting next to CA in the ESPN studios and he looked miserable… had the hiding the pain smile…
Syracuse has Bill Walton calling their game.
Nice little run to start the 2nd half to climb back in it vs Gonzaga.
I feel like Eaton is trolling me personally
“Back and forth. Look at all the happy people.”
