🏀 ACC Tournament Semifinals: Virginia vs Miami, Friday, 13 March 2026, 1900, ESPN/2

last time we won the acc tourney we lost to ryan odoms team the next week, so it seems only fitting that odom is here to exorcise that demon by winning the acc then going on a deep ncaa run.

Yeah 2023 Tournament I thought was really enjoyable because it was kind of a cathartic look at what we could be playing like if we stopped forcing small lineups all the time.

Wait, you didn’t like BVP at the five? I kid, I kid

The hilarious part, to me, is that I actually liked it as a sometimes food. Not paired with JG and not as the primary strategy.

Jayden has taken about 200 threes in his first two euro seasons. Roughly 34%.

Was 3-17 at UVa (only took 3 his senior year). Wish Tony would have let him shoot more.

The main thing is that people want to feel good going into March Madness and if you have lost your last game going into March Madness then you feel less good than if you had won it. I think that’s mostly the crux of it.

This probably isn’t the thread for this discussion but a crazy thought is that our actual most efficient two-man pairing that season was Dunn and Shedrick. Of course that could have changed with more sample size - but for a defensive-focused program it’s surprising to me that we were so averse to just having a monstrous frontcourt and letting our guards carry more offense - given how poorly we defended when we played some of those other lineups. Anyway - won’t derail any more.

Edit* - honestly this is probably one of the better examples of how process-oriented Bennett was vs. how results-focused Odom is. Like, the actual defensive output wasn’t Bennett’s primary concern - it was the fundamentals of the execution. Where Odom is much more just “what works” and will always lean toward that.

Personally, I gravitate more toward the latter philosophy - but there’s certainly merit in the former and may have a higher ceiling when given the ability to refine longer term.

Also think the latter is better for this day and age where the chances of having continuity roster-wise season over season is way lower

For sure.

A results based approach also helps with in game adjustments, tilting towards who is playing well, etc… and is also important when the sport’s postseason is a single elimination tournament. Process is probably better for NBA (longer season, best of 7 format).

Line down to 2.5….

I can count on one, maybe two, fingers (not hands) the number of times I’ve strongly disagreed with his assessment of who is playing well and should get the time late in a game this season.

Which, to me, is enjoyable as a fan.

But, yeah, I also wasn’t thrilled when we had Tillis as someone we were inbounding to at the end of the game (do like him as the inbounder though).

Guessing the money just started paying attention to how good Miami has been lately and how well they match our strengths. Honestly was surprised it wasn’t a toss up when line opened.

It appears to be an issue with the platform we use, streamyard… cancelling pregame show but if we can get it working might be back for postgame.
