No idea. Maybe with everyone conflating athleticism with vert, it’s a short-hand way of saying solid defender without a 40" vertical?

I think you know it when you see it kinda thing, but good question

Yeah, I think it’s pretty straightforward- how well do you move your feet side to side. How well can you stay in front of your man. My contrarian position is that it’s actually easier to scout defense for this reason. There’s a more straightforward calculation to success as compared to offense.

Interesting take and happy cake day. I feel like a lot of “great” defenders are deemed so because of steals or block shots, which makes sense, but doesnt account for everything

Agree. Great perimeter defense in the pack line means keeping your man out of dangerous spots and funneling to help, stunting to clog the driving lane and recovering out to your man, and nailing your rotations.

I see more Kendall Marshall than Ty Jerome in Bliss.

Kendall Marshall was more of a passer and not a shooter right? I think a Ty Jerome/Malcolm Brogdon is more accurate right?

He couldn’t or wouldn’t shoot. At all. It’s why he couldn’t make it in the NBA.
His % was pretty good in college on 2’s and 3’s but 69% FT shooter. 61% in the NBA.
But he was one of the best passers I’ve seen in the ACC this century.

Yeah you’re right. I thought the way he moved, side and athleticism. But Marshall was more a pure PG.

Hell if Bliss becomes 3/4 of the player Brogdon and Jerome, would be incredible.
