Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

Do you think if we get Ben Gregg we still offer a Nickel/Dick/Molner type or do we focus more on a 6’6/6’7 long wing space Hunter guard who can play the 4 like Alphonzo Billups or (one of my faves) Collin Smith?

Yeah I think you’re on the right track. Key with Nickel or Batchelor is showing they defend guards, offensive skillset is there. But they might want a better athlete with Gregg anyway, such as Billups. Tough to pair a 3 and a 4 who aren’t great defenders.

Hadnt heard us associated with him for a while but I am super happy we are included in the edit
(I will speak Jonas Aidoo and Collin Smith being wahoos into existence)

Harrison Ingram, his high school teammate and 5* in 2021, has UNC Stanford Purdue and Michigan in his top 6 so I figure those, as well as the local texas schools, will be the favorites. Also hurts that his sister is a volleyball player at Stanford. But he and his family REALLY value academics.

I talked to Colin Smith briefly when I did the blog. Very polite and well spoken. It was just in twitter DMs. Most of these kids need to be edited if not translated when they’re talking that way lol Not him. And in more cases than not I had to hound their coaches to get a reply. Colin answered quickly with enthusiasm.

Very much a tony kid. Now, do you think we actually have a chance and is he someone the staff will pursue from what you are hearing?

No idea. I just think that’s how he is. Appreciative of the interest. He said he had only heard from Kyle Getter so far, that first week anyway.

I finally got a little info on Collin. The only things that I was told that relate tu UVA with Collin is the following. He is aware of UVA success and ability tu develop kids. He doesnt mind traveling east for school but more likely he wont. His family is very close and having them at games is important tu him and the family. But its not written in stone tu be close. He havent heard from UVA and schools like UNC and Duke stand out tu him more than other schools on the east coast.

I don’t know the kid at all. I kept asking around for you HoosandTrue and finally someone shared this with me midweek. They say he has alot of potential and can become a top 50 player but he is not there yet. They said he need tu get stronger and gain weight big time. He is a tremendous student and a very good kid.

Worst comes to worst, would be a perfect redshirt candidate. Even on the Duke 247 board when discussing Harrison Ingram (when they were involved), one of their posters was like “Ingram has a teammate on his high school team who might even be better than him when its said and done”. Collin Smith definitely is out there but I dont think he recruitment has picked up that much if at all. Can be said for most of 2022

Syracuse fans’ insights on Justin Taylor. Funny read but also some good points.

I am super high on him and McKneely. Gotta believe if we don’t land Keels then we likely would have a good chance to reel in both of those guys, assuming we offer.

I think Jamie on 247 said we would be open to taking both. We do have the two open schollies for 2022. Also I have a feeling we will have an extra schollie to work with between 2021 and 2022 whether it be a transfer or someone leaving early for the NBA after a good season (which would mean an amazing season for the hoos)

Nunez had a couple big weekends at these streamed events. I think his dad is the director of the Hardwork Under Armour program. So it would be a little complicated that way..

@HoozGotNext Do you think staff maybe go for McKneely as a pg prospect/combo guard instead of recruiting a pure pg in 2022? Would that also help with Trevor Keels pitch, since you could say “Hey there is going to be a lot of point guard minutes available for you to develop and have your chance as a ball handler” and have him take over pg duties when Reece isn’t on the floor. a la Brogdon and Perrantes? and you have that additional ball handler in McKneely on the floor as well just in case?

No. Bennett just likes guys that can do different things. McKneely being able to play point a little is a nice bonus. They don’t have to get a PG in '22, they just probably should. Keels won’t care. By the time that guy is ready to do anything, he hopes to be collecting a check.

Got it. I am just trying to spatially image how we use these 6 (I assume a transfer or an early entry to the NBA in the next years) scholarships

1 big/project big, 1 big guard, 1 four who can play the 3, 1 long guard who can play the 4, 1 combo guard/pg, 1 3 point sniper who can do other things but only gets typecast as a shooter and then the first time he drives in the game the announcer is like “He can do more than shoot”

That’s only if we even use all the schollies

I pray UVA wait until 23 for a PG. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

HooandTrue remind me of myself. I use tu be a dangerous fanatic. All I did was think UVA BASKETBALL. Look how crazy I was. I use tu watch old games knowing the ending or bad plays and still get irate and break shit. I knew the outcome and everything but still act crazy like it was new. Than I be upset the rest of the day. I got hired for a job and turned it down because that city didnt have ACC or UVA basketball channels.

He is predicting scenarios for 22 and the 20 season havent started. I know HGN is answering your questions but he have no clue what we will do in 22. I dont think UVA have a clue LMAO. We still dont know how the 21 class will look. LOL. I love his passion and thats why we talk elsewhere. This youngman love sports and UVA. He is a beast. I cant keep up with him. LOL
