Cannon
Those early 2000s Saints teams were so fun to watch, too. Then they got rid of him after Katrina, and I stopped paying attention. I assume it was all downhill after that.
Didnāt Brooks take the Saints to their first playoff win ever, or first since Archie?
They brought in some short guy who played at Purdue I donāt think much happened after that.
Yeah I think so. Vaguely remember a Saints QB from somewhere in the midwest. But maybe it was one of the Billy Joes⦠(My dadās a Purdue grad and I have a memory of listening to them having some crazy comeback with some short kid at QB in the early 2000s ā yes, we listened to a game on the radio in the 2000s, kinda crazy ā but no memory of what happened to him)
Random trip down memory lane, but the game was the 1998 Alamo Bowl, and I have no idea why we were listening on the radio in our living room, like it was 1946, but there you goā¦

Bonus points for those who remember Michael Bishop (the QB who everyone figured would be the well known QB in that game)
Your dad like Lee Rose and Joe Barry Carrol years?
Joe Barry Carrol I know, but Lee Rose** I donāt. I didnāt start watching with him until roughly the Cuonzo Martin, Brian Cardinal era. I watched him the following games: the one when Purdue lost to Dick Bennett in the Elite 8 (bummed me out), the one where Purdue lost to Tony Bennett (I liked that one better), and the one where Painter got spanked by a bunch of Peacocks (still havenāt forgiven Painter).
** Oh wow, final 4 coach!
Imma get booed of the thread but dont care. My best friend in Georgetown KY was on Roses staff and we went to the games leading up to Purdues Final 4. I was like 10 and it was unreal hanging with the players etc
Thatās awesome. Unfortunately, it was like right before my time ā '84 was pretty much the first tourney I remember.
In conference transfers, especially one year ones where a guy wouldnāt even have been eligible except for the Covid exception, donāt bother me at all. We do play NCSU next season, but thereās about a 5/13 chance that we donāt play whatever random in conference school a guy transfers to.
Hoos pick up a transfer commit from UNC DB CamāRon Kelly. Former 4 star prospect and a third team All-ACC selection in 2021, should have one year of eligibility remaining.
For anyone who remembers how his original recruitment went coming out of HS, itās pretty funny to see this come full circle and have him end up in Charlottesville.
Didnāt it go UVA-Auburn-UNC, now back to UVA?
The timeline I recall is that he was originally a silent commit to UVA after an official visit, then he attended VTās junior day and went back on his silent verbal to us so he could commit there, then decommitted from VT and flipped to Auburn, then attended Auburn for one semester in the Spring before immediately transferring to UNC. Now heās here for his final year after four years with the Tar Heels.
As Iāve always said, in-conference transfers are great
In more distressing news, transfer OL commit Daijon Parker is currently on an official visit to Iowa and already has a CB logged for the Hawkeyes to flip him. Would be a big loss as he was likely gonna start at LT for us next year, not having an OL coach officially hired as of right now is really killing us on the recruiting trail while weāre trying to patchwork a starting unit.
To clarify my position: I hate in-conference transfers-out, not in-conference transfers-in. Those are ok. Because Carolina Sucks.
I thought there was something about him committing to us but us not actually wanting him to commit or something. Or maybe that was just some people talking sour grapes after he changed his mind.
That sounds about right, honestly itās been so long that I donāt remember all the details. Regardless though itās a good pickup for us.
I hate being that guy at this point but Iām pretty happy and impressed with the management of the portal. No homeruns but potentially a lot of singles and doubles. Feels like they are recruiting within their lane and not relying on reaching.
Main thing Iām worried about now is the OL room. Parker would be a big loss and currently thatās not trending our way, weāve gotta get an OL coach in here and do our best to patch up the holes along our starting unit. Otherwise weāll be in the same position as last year of being severely limited in what we can run offensively.
