Unfortunately I doubt that comes into play. Can’t imagine us beating Uruguay even on home soil
I have an unhealthy hatred for USA coach. The loser incessently blames his players for everything. Booooo
Jeebus. This camera angle. If I wanted seats this bad I would have bought them.
Yeah… crazy camera.
It just got better. Must have been complaints through the roof
Competitive draw leading to getting knocked out seems like the most likely outcome. Think they played fairly well that first half, though couldn’t quite convert their most dangerous attacks into shots.
Ref is on one though, I think the commentary was right when they said he might not be up for the intensity of the match.
Lol and a clearly offside goal given, even after VAR. Pretty much exactly what you expect from this ref, I suppose.
How was that goal not offsides?! I’m shocked
As much as getting CONCACAF’d is a thing, it would probably be worse to have to deal with CONMEBOL all the time.
I wish this would get Berhalter fired. We must be able to do a little better. Not that he’s a catastrophe, but he ain’t leading us to any promised land.
Yep, Berhalter has to go. Period.
Once that goal went in and wasn’t overruled, Bolivia bouncing back and somehow beating Panama was our best bet. Once that didn’t happen, we were toast. Losing to Panama is inexcusable.
Pessimistic thought: they ran a full coaching search not too long ago and got down to Berhalter vs Marsch (now Canada’s coach), and supposedly Marsch thought he had the job until the federation got feedback from key players that they preferred Berhalter to Marsch. Are they in a better position now for a search?
It still might be the right decision to make, but if they did, the candidates are probably not going to be exciting names. But then again, the last two World Cup-winning managers are a guy who only coached the U20 national team before taking over the senior team and a guy whose team hasn’t yet scored a goal from open play in Euros 2024.
Berhalter will be gone; at least he should be. He’s not a quality coach (at this level) and he’s not a good tactician. The player talent is not as good as some claim, but it’s better than these results.
Did y’all watch the nation’s league last year when we had the interim coach? The team was so much better with the same players (actually missing Adams) and a 0 experience manager. We don’t need a genius to fix things. Just one who is competent enough to do simple things like play Gio at the 10
Fire Berhalter. Hire Wilfred Nancy. His Columbus Crew play a style our USMNT players would slot into well. Plus, he knows MLS. He may not want to leave his current gig, but he’s a proven winner (Columbus won MLS Cup last year), and I think would be able to achieve what Berhalter promised in terms of style of play and on the pitch results.
I think with Nancy he’s probably in line for a move to a bigger league at some point, and national team coach doesn’t really fit into that trajectory. Even at the top nations, the coaches tend to be guys who got let go from their most recent club position, not guys on the rise.
I’m going to predict they dont fire Gregg. This was this regime’s first hire, and doing so so quickly would basically be admitting they made the wrong decision. Which I know is a sunk cost but I’m gonna predict Gregg is still our coach in 2026 and I’ll hate every second of it.
Berhalter is a company man that doesn’t challenge the status quo. There are major problems with US Soccer from the very top through it’s development model and a milque toast coach like GGG is just a useful cog to keep the machine running. Bronco said at least a few smart things, one being “an organization is perfectly designed for the results it gets.” Welp, there ya go.
There has to be a change but I think they are going to have a nearly impossible task in getting anyone worth a damn to take it.
Setting the coach to the side, what did you all think about the individual player performances?
Balogun was definitely stock up for me, I think he may have separated himself a little bit from the other striker options. Pulisic maybe a mild stock up, maybe more from the sense that he kept his form from the club season.
A lot of guys were neutral in my eyes. Adams looking relatively healthy was a positive, even if his performance was at expectation. Similar for Gio, it was good that he played a bunch after a club season where PT was not consistent.
And the disappointing guys for me were Richards and McKennie, and then Weah for getting a red.
