Ah yes, Tony clearly hates Eli and loves Rohde. You’ve cracked the code. It’s all about who Tony likes playing ping pong with and not because of basketball preferences Tony has consistently shown for 15 years
Look at bond for example…
-
I agree that this can mostly be explained by idiosyncratic preferences

one (more) benefit of playing a larger rotation / more guys, more minutes is that we don’t have to have these odd internecine turf wars where we each pick our guys on the team we really like and defend those choices to the point of ridiculousness**
** if any of you have extensive writing from the 14-19 period about how we were so good because of the awesome secondary initiation we had on the team, then I stand corrected
Let me transition into something that everyone enjoys: me crapping on Tony’s coaching style. Like, I’d like to have a team that doesn’t poop down its leg when it sees a mid major team put on a 1-3-1 they haven’t played since January. I suspect we’d all like that, wouldn’t we? How do we get there? Is it really really drill into the finer points of the role of the secondary initiator in our sides offense? Or is it let guys who can create a bucket find some level of comfort?
Trick question, dummies. See my post above. It’s both.
I’d ratter deep dive into how Rohde knows Rocky 1 & 2 from start to finish while Eli’s only seen the first one once and Taine says Rocky sucks. Instead Taine won’t stop bringing up the Hobbit prequel trilogy. Really nail down the nuts and bolts of the personal like and dislike Tony has for each player and how that determines playing time
Internecine - GREAT SAT word from back in the day… Solid pull Haney!! Pretty sure that word has never appeared on any Bass Tech Fan Forums.
in·ter·ne·cine
adjective
- destructive to both sides in a conflict.
“the region’s history of savage internecine warfare.”
Just for the record, I never have the opportunity to attend practices. I have no idea of what takes place then. However, I have the suspicion that whatever does take place at practice has a great deal to do with the distribution of playing time on game day. If a true frosh, though highly touted by members of this board, isn’t getting significant court time, then I imagine it might have something to do with what they do in practice. Lastly, just because a player isn’t getting the PT some had anticipated he would, it isn’t a reflection of anything other than where he is on his path of development, and, IMO, player development has been the key to Virginia’s success under Coach Bennett.
To be fair, I had to look it up to make sure it was the word I thought it was.
Someone who goes to these practices from time to time said Elijah goes head to head with Reece in practice and Elijah sticks out as one of the best players. In practice
Probably also explains the turnovers in practice
So looks like Hoos9412 is right! Eli must NOT have watched Rocky 2 and that’s why he’s not getting time!
Tony has a plan I am sure.
Papi just watched Rocky IV and skipped the Stallone parts
True … no chance he could do better than Rohde in Acc play if given more opportunities???
Rohde in Acc games:
30 minutes per game
31%FG
23% 3 pt FG
0% FT - and this is even worse because he has 1 attempt… how does anyone playing 30 min a game who has the ball so much do that? Like the odds gotta be astronomical.
1 FTA in 210 minutes
0 offensive boards… none
1.9 rebounds
0.6 steals
2.6 assists
0.7 turnovers
And another indictment…
1.1 fouls … I mean how are you even trying to do anything if you have 1 foul in 30 minutes?
Need a quick re-cap here. Is Ro dog the new Kihei or is Eli? Or is it Taine? Asking for a friend.
Taine is the new Kody
But I thought Kody was the new Nolte?
Groves is Nolte just taller
Rohde is the new Kody and or BVP
Eli is the new Igor/Bond/Traudt
Groves is a ginger and therefore has no soul, so he doesn’t count.
