Fall Recruiting Action

While that’s true, it is also worth remembering that last year Coach Bennett could have played Beekman as the primary ball handler and replaced Clark with Woldetensae to add three point shooting. Clark averaged 34 mpg while Woldetensae played 13.5 mpg. And, while Leon Bond III is committed to Virginia, the three you mentioned are still prospects. Based on history, I have a suspicion that Mr. Bond is going to find some serious PT despite his lack of range.

Yeah but we are not striving for that roster make up with recruiting. We are going to have players who play defense and can shoot the three.

Hoozgotnext has repeatedly said Bond is a redshirt candidate. and he refers to himself as a raw prospect who needs development.

From the headline I thought Leon was referring to the bricks he clanged off the rims in the shooting video.

You just defined what I consider to be a threat (and the way I read hooandtrue’s meaning).

Threat doesn’t mean Steph Curry or Joe Harris. It means willing and able to shoot (especially if left open).

Is it just me, or does this 2022 class look way stronger than your typical group?

For all intents and purposes, this is the first real post National Championship reruiting class. The overwhelming majority of recruiting for the 2020 class had been completed by the time Virginia won in 2019. (Not to mention the fact that the early departures created unanticipated holes in the roster.) Recruiting for the 2021 class was limited due to the pandemic, and the staff’s self-imposed requirement to watch prospects in live action before offering. This year’s class contains the first group of recruits who were fully courted, at length, by a Virginia program which possessed the mantle of former National Champion. I think the benefits of such status are becoming apparent. It’s good to be a 'Hoo!

It is just you. But is it just me, or does this 2022 class have way better posture than your typical group?

Well, it’s just the third time since Tony got here that we’ve pulled three top 100 recruits (using ESPN Top 100 here).

2016: Guy (28th), Jerome (44th), Hunter (73rd)

2012: Anderson (49th), Nolte (52nd), Tobey (81st)

The 2022 class is currently Isaac Traudt (45th), Isaac McKneely (72nd), Leon Bond (74th). So at least according to ESPN’s rankings, it’s probably our second-best recruiting class of all time. As 73CAV mentioned, it’s the first real post-natty recruiting class, which is probably why it looks so good on paper. Future of the program is looking pretty nice.

edit: as DaveTheWave and unknown noted below, Huff (74th) and Diakite (reclassified to '15 but then redshirted) were also class of 2016 players. That incoming class was so stacked

Huff also in 2016

And Diakite, kind of, who re-classified to 2015, then red-shirted when the NCAA had issues with his Nigerian transcript. In my mind, I always thought of him as a 2016 recruit because it wasn’t until the very end of his recruitment that the re-classification and redshirt occurred. I think he ended up being in the low 30’s recruiting rank-wise for 2015, but maybe that was his pre-reclassification ranking in 2016.

Mamadi too really

Edit: covered by Unknown above

I took Joe’s comment to mean 2022 overall is a strong class. Seems obvious that UVA’s class is really good.

Mamadi’s “Nigerian” transcript? Do you mean Guinnean transcript?

I took it to mean physically strong haha

That’s the way I read it as well.

Oh well if that’s the case I disagree lol at least right now. They all have the build to put on good weight though so they should be by the time they are our nucleus.

McKneely has more muscle than the entire 2016 recruiting class put together coming out of HS

Yes, my mistake, and apologies to Diakite and all Guineans.

No problem- I thought I missed something…but also didn’t he go to Blue Ridge in VA, so I wonder why the NCAA wouldn’t accept that transcript after him being in the US for atleast a year prior?
