Fall Recruiting Action

True but that’s like being the most sober Irishman lol

I’m not sure if the official reason the NCAA wouldn’t clear him initially was ever made public (possible that Diakite said something in an interview, maybe, but I’m having a hard time remembering). I think the unofficial explanation (speculation?) was that it was his Guinean transcript, possibly because that’s not an infrequent problem with kids coming from African countries. People were complaining that Diakite apparently did very well at Blue Ridge, was fluent in three languages, and his parents are well off professionals in Guinea, so he was probably better prepared for college than the majority of players from the United States. Anyway, my comments about his Guinean transcript may be a decent reconstruction of my memory of events from five years ago, or I don’t know what I’m talking about.

My recollection was that they were having trouble getting the Guinean transcript and information about it, and finally the NCAA said “Ok he can be on your team but he has to redshirt” and that was that

Ah okay thanks for that explanation. Got it.

Do we know how many he’s up to now? Has to be at least 4

Greek, maybe?

Whatever the technical reason was that he had to redshirt it was for the best. He was really raw and he really didn’t come into his own until part way through the championship year (year 4). I rewatched all the NCAA games again last year and boy was he good during the tournament but it took him a while to get there.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Seems he picks up languages quickly. He was probably fluent in English by the end of his redshirt year (his rfr at the latest) after not speaking any when he arrived at Blue Ridge.

He’s fluent in championese.

Hah. I’m reminded of the Dune trailer where Jason Momoa claps Chalamet on the arm in greeting and says in surprise “You put on some muscle?”, Chalamet says back “Have I?”, and Momoa says “No.”

Julian Phillips under “top recruit still uncommitted whose recruitment is hardest to read”. And I second that. Dude is radio silent on his recruitment and no one has any idea scouring the other boards. Even FSU, the supposed favorite, have no idea and their mod is like idk at all. Who knows if we are even still recruiting him or not. I believe @HoozGotNext would say not to pay any attention to it and if it happens it happens/looking for someone more willing to develop on a deep roster for the 4th addition.

Looks like we are indeed interested in Kaleb Glenn despite his top 4

Chris Mack comes to my house? He’s leaving his phone in the car and I’m checking for a wire.

Seriously though, program has no confidence in the guy. He should’ve stayed at his alma mater, where he had just gotten a #1 seed. Don’t go chasing waterfalls…

Eh most coaches would choose to try their hand at the place you can win national titles over a place that hasn’t made a Final Four. Think he might have underestimated the difference between Jurich and Tyra though.

I think he probably ends up somewhere else, but Bobi Klintman looks like he’s going to be a really good player. COVID really messed up his scouting process, because no one could get to Sweden to watch him play, but he’ll probably get a lot of buzz going up the Rivals/247/ESPN rankings this year at a pretty premier high school program in Sunrise Christian. His fluidity at 6’8/6’9 is pretty unique. Hopefully UVA can make a late push.
