Generic NCAA Tourney Bubble Watch

Not to count wins, but I feel confident enough that we beat FSU and Louisville. Not feeling great about Duke again just because we have to play near perfect to do it. Miami will be tough especially if we don’t figure it out from 3. Let’s say we split. That means we have to win 2 in the ACC tournament. Would be difficult but not impossible.

Man, just seems like such a stretch at this point.

If we beat Duke, it will be the first time sweeping them since 1995. If THIS team is the one to do it, I will fully admit I know nothing about the game we have grown to call “basketball”

Gonna go ahead and assume an L

I agree that it’s not happening, but this team got the hard win out of the way already.

No. Sleep. Till. Brooklyn.

I think we should just go ahead and win the ACC tournament. I want a banner every year. There’s still a chance!

Looking at Bart Torvik sim- the most likely “best case scenario” where we win 5/6 (Duke loss) puts us as last team in…

The ACCT needs to end with a loss or another 2 wins (your scenario has it ending with just 2 wins). And … as I’m typing this, I remember the obvious counterexample from last year…

Let’s just win the ACC tournament and make this moot

I will say that, barring us losing out, I feel like our NIT chances are rock-solid.

I think the 3 has to include Duke and the 1 can only be against Miami and we need to get to the ACCT semi to be in a meaningful bubble conversation. And that assumes @Miami is still a Quad 1 loss. A win @Miami probably knocks them to a Quad 2 win while a Duke win will definitely stay a Quad 1 win.

A loss to either Louisville or FSU will end our chances.

In the ACCT, if we’re the 5-6 seed, a win vs an 11 or 12 seed like Clemson or NC State isn’t going to move the needle at all. We need a win vs a top 4 team in the quarter, Wake or ND or UNC to move up.

Even then, I think we’re on the wrong side of the bubble. Might just have to win the ACCT to have any chance.

Rutgers having themselves a nice stretch of 4 straight wins against ranked opponents.

Got to be moving into lock territory after barely being on the bubble before that stretch. Talk about seizing the opportunity.

They get Purdue next.

That’s an impressive run. And went under the radar with it.

That Florida win over auburn doesn’t help us

While this is true, I will always cheer for Auburn to lose. So I am perfectly content.

Back in the bubble convo.

Oregon and BYU both lost. Oklahoma is a game above .500 - can’t see them making it.

SMU and Memphis today will have big bubble implications.

Tony, Wideman, and Carla should try as hard as humanly possible to add a Q1/2 game between FSU and Louisville. It’s fine not to use our full allotment of games normally but kind of negligent not to when we have a bubble team. If these last two seasons have taught us anything about scheduling it’s that you can add games pretty late in the process.

Do you mean during our “off week”? Both of those teams have games, though.

I’m confused which teams you are saying have games? We don’t have an opponent that week. Surely there has to be one top 75 opponent somewhere in the country that also doesn’t have a midweek game and hasn’t used their full allotment of games either?

But both of the teams (fsu and Louisville) you mentioned do. I’m all for an out of the box idea, but (1) Tony is very much an “in the box” kind of guy, and (2) it’s going to be tough to convince a Q1/2 caliber team to add another game in the last week of the regular season.

Hope we see Carolina in the ACC.
