Weisz was the OL who retired. I was definitely thinking of Wentz though.
I could be remembering this all wrong, but I think Wentz was a QB when he came over from Germany, but he’s converted to a WR. Al Soufi was another guy from Germany who I think was meant to be a lineman but disappeared at some point. Needless to say, doesn’t really seem that experiment worked out.
This is all ringing vague bells
Al Soufi is the guy we were talking about on another thread. I don’t think he ever made it here or it was very breif and he was gone before the end of camp
Yup, I thought they were both same position, but my memory can no longer be relied upon
We are starting off in a rough spot if the acronym we adopt for our coach is a traumatic brain injury, but hey that does sum up uva sports for me so let’s go with it
I’m hoping we settle on something other than CTE or TE, both of which confuse me every time I see them because they’re already football acronyms. Can we just say CE? Or throw in a middle initial? Cmon, work on this, people.
I’ve used TE and admit it can be confusing but CTE has confused me each time. May be time to just spell out his nam. Worked for Welsh Groh London and Bronco.
Not everyone can be as cool as CTB
I always write Coach Elliott or Elliott. Didn’t he say he personally like Coach E in his intro press conference?
Hmm if he said he likes Coach E then that’s what I’m going with moving forward and if that proves not to be true then I’m blaming @4547Lambeth
Yeah, same. When people were talking about the OL above and someone said something I read as “He’s got an issue with CTE but he’ll be in the mix soon”, I was like “Wait, WHAT?”
I like the post-game “Good Ol Song,” but— I don’t know how hot this take is— maybe it’s time to lose it after every score.
Keep the drums/“Wah-hoo-wah!.. etc” chant part at the end as a score celebration, but save the ‘Auld Lang Syne’ bit for after the game. Every single non-UVa person I have brought to a game over the years has been so weirded out by it, I cannot imagine it’s a big game-day attraction to the younger generation (students, players, recruits, etc).
Have other schools stopped doing their fight songs after scores? Thought it was a pretty standard thing to do in college football.
Yes and no. A lot of schools will play their fight song but they tend to be more up-beat and shorter. I don’t mind the Good Ol Song being played after scores and generally I like it. But I’d be okay if it was dropped after scores. To @tboooone point I’ve never brought a new or non-UVa fan to a game who wasn’t confused or flat out hated. Part of why I enjoy it at this point is sheerly to troll them.
I do like the idea of the team singing with the fans after the game, that’s a pretty common thing at schools and would be nice to add.
man beingin an first timer to the game and Good Ole Song goes off straight WTF factor for your homey
Most places score, band plays some song, fans go crazy. We pause and sing some weird ass song that I love
It creates a weird energy almost a “you have to be in the know to understand” It also does not play well on TV. Something more hype with the stands jumping looks better.
Al Soufi was on the squad a couple years but he never played.
He transferred to a JUCO in Iowa last winter after the season.
Man it is so true. I remember first year and no one told us about such things. Straight confusion that we would chill for a TD
pro move: get seated near an co ed when Moore to Moore is in the red zone. I love you Hav and TJ but these hugs are real!
Gotcha, funny the more I hear his story the more it’s slowly coming back to me even the Iowa part sounds familiar for sure.
@DFresh11 that’s exactly why you’re my boy. I used that same move too bro. Same move…
Fight songs rule. I’m only suggesting to focus on the fun/hype part of the song (in an exciting moment), and edit the strangely slow-tempo, gently-swaying part of the song until later.
It’s incongruous.
