Hoos Football Season 2022: A New Era

It’s funny how many states have a school on both lists. Is the food really that different in Columbia versus in Clemson?

I spent a few minutes earlier checking the trip advisor page for best Starkville MS restaurants. Eh, definitely a lot of mediocre sports bars, but that’s pretty standard for college towns. They have one Thai place, one Indian place, one Mexican place. I suppose there are worst places to eat…

I could have sworn that when I was at UVA, people used to say that the one thing VT had on us (besides football dominance) was they had really good dining hall food. Was that all a weird rumor or lie? I’ve never been there.

They do have far superior dining hall food. Most of it is not the classic buffet style college food which is a shift that seems to be more common. I know duke - who also has highly rated on campus food - also does mostly food that you order and it comes as a single serving

That does leave the question what are you looking for when you’re in a college town. If I’m in town for a game, I don’t care about “nice diners” I just need some above avg sports bars if a town has a spot that does something special then great. But I’m not looking for sit down spots with waiters and table cloths if I’m rolling in to catch a game.

Yeah, it’s a good question. I think the best way to do this off the top of my head is to imagine a Saturday 3:30 pm game. You took a long weekend and are meeting some buddies for a game day weekend. Assume you have a post college budget. Friday night, you look for a decent meal. Not white table cloth, but not sports bar either. Pre-game (let’s assume — correctly in my case — that tailgating is a concept that never made sense to you), you want a nice sports bar, with plentiful TVs and a decent atmosphere and decent quality apps/sandwiches/ whatever.

Saturday night? That’s a wildcard…

But yeah, Sunday morning, I’m gonna say you do want a fancy diner.

I’m not sure what I’ve solved here, but I did enjoy thinking about it.

(Tbh, the one time I was in Madison, I remember the bars being very good / very plentiful, but I don’t remember much about the eats situation)

You ever heard of this place called coupe’s? Not sure if it’s still around. Used to serve a mean pitcher of coors light back in the day.

Yea that spot was legit.

@haney you nailed my typical weekend including one of my bachelor parties.

Friday starts with dinner n drinks preferably a steakhouse even better if it has a bar with a hightop and good bourbon

Saturday I’m with you Im all for tailgating bit give me upstairs at wild wing cafe or throwback upstairs side bar at oneils any day. Saturday night I’m not eating but bonus points if there’s a legit local late night white spot or Christians

Sunday good local diner is a great call

Shit that is awful. That place did everything right whenever I was able to go. During college my mentor/ other dad/ coach/ friend took me and a bunch of buddies there my 4th year after we beat Dukes ass. He still complains about how it cost him 500!

Haha yup I had 2 almost had 3 but that one never came through. So when i got married in 16 we had to move the date up for family reasoja the original date was gonna be in 17.

Anyways we got married in Nov. It so happened iwas scheduled to be in Chicago for the USA vs NZ Maori match followed by Ire vs. NZ THE NXT day so a weekend in Chicago with all my rugby buddies? 2 or 3 weeks out from my wedding check that’s a bachelor party.

It also worked out that the nxt week Uva was playing ■■■■ so I used that as a chance to hook up with some of my Va boys who weren’t rugby associated and we tore it up for a weekend in Charlottesville. I have no idea if I made it to the game.
