Hoos Going Pro 2021-22 NBA Season

No protections is a big deal too. Gotta at least top-1 protect those picks that far out.

Price feels a tad high but i think the Hawks see themselves closer to the team who went 6 with the Bucks a yr ago and adding some defense and scoring in the backcourt is that missing piece.

The picks may not be that bad I can a world where the Hawks are perienal middle of the pack teams leaving those picks as small pieces.

They have a lot of assets if they needed to blow it up. Even if Trae was always untouchable, you have to think Collins is worth 2 FRP, Dre 1-2 FRP, Murray will still be worth 2 FRP etc. the issue will be doing small tweaks from here on out but I think the team really wants to establish some winning while Trae is still young

Totally agreed with thinking about what those picks actually are - Murray is absolutely worth three Jalen Johnson or AJ Griffin picks right now.

What combo 3 from this list is worth anything near Murray

And adding another year:

Middling first round picks are just so hit or miss

Herro is the closet and Id take Murray. Hawks don’t want to end up like the Pacers just good enough to be bad

I would say Murray is worth like 1.5-2.5 Tyler Herros. And if you think a team has like a 1/8 odds of getting a Tyler Herro from that range, then you would say that (1/8)^2 is the chance of drawing two in a row. Those are not good odds.

Totally agree. Murray > Herro and worth 2 or 3 mid 1st round picks easy.

Yeah, Murray is a young all-star. What they gave up to get him seems pretty fair and not a dramatic overpay. If anything, if I were a Spurs fan, I might feel not so great about this. That said, I think Murray only has two years left on his deal and his agent is Rich Paul, so he was probably bolting soon regardless.

Also, Atlanta is building around a young core. These things usually look worst when a team is building around an old core and desperate to try and grab a title before their limited window closes, so they throw away their entire future and then, when their aging players are washed, they have nothing of value to trade to get their future back (see how long it took Nets to rebuild). As @BDragon basically said, the Hawks - even if things don’t go well - will have a bunch of assets other teams will be interested in, so they can always rework the team if need be.

And the market price for picks is obviously higher than just the probability of getting a player because picks have a functional salary discount if you pick a good player.

The Spurs are what the Hawks are trying to avoid. Star player on a bad team wasting his prime. For them may as well start over cause you arent trading your way out of it

I’d prefer Maxey but the point remains

Maxey not a bad pick up at that value at all. Kinda shocking looking at that list and seeing how many are out of the league or one foot out the door already.

So true. Love that the asking price on an nfl team starts at 3B now.

Correct - as the resident Celtics fan… they are negotiating a longer term contract. By making him a restricted FA it gives them time to hammer out the deal. His best skill
Is what they need in the worst way.
Could be a battle between him and Nesmith to get up
Into 9th - 10th man in the rotation
