Hoos Going Pro 2021-22 NBA Season

I thought the return for the Spurs was a little light. 3 picks in the 15-25 range and absorbing salary for a guy on the cusp of being an all star?

I could see that really comes down to how Atl performs. A cple 15/16/17 level picks it’s not terrible esp for a franchise that typically handles it’s picks well. 3 picks in the mid 20s? That’s harder to swallow. No matter what if you’re a Spurs fan you got to be feeling down.

Before the Harden trade, there were rumors that the Sixers asked for Murray as the centerpiece of the return on a Ben Simmons trade and the Spurs declined. Love him or hate him, Simmons is a transformative defensive player and all star level overall talent under contract for 5 or 6 years. He might never shoot, but he does a lot of everything else at a high level and he’s a killer on the fast break.

I remember hearing that rumor. The Nets landed a steal and will get the best version of Simmons a 6’10 lock down defender who can switch 1-5 rebounds the ball well and loves to get out in transition. And on that roster he never has to be more than a 3rd option on offense.

In some ways I don’t blame the Spurs for passing because they didn’t have the pieces to fit around him.

That is the most important reason it wouldn’t have worked, but I’m also trying to imagine Pop coaching Simmons and…. Yeah, I don’t think that would go well. He doesn’t need that crap at this point. He’s having more fun coaching a bunch of kids who want to grind, even if it’s a worse team.

Ok so maybe ATL shouldn’t have given away those 3 picks. I guess they could do Murray Hunter and Collins + JJ and Griffin for KD?

See above - does ATL throw all they’ve got at it? Trae and KD supposedly like each other

If they do it will turn into they likED each other

If Atl wants in on that, they have to give up Collins probably Murray. Dre definitely being signed to the teens.

So KD was scrolling through Twitter and saw the conference realignment news and was annoyed people weren’t paying attention to him?

That’s almost insane enough to make sense.
