FWIW there’s only so much a Curtis can do, you can’t out run/train genetics and maybe more damning it’s hard for MC to undo potentially years of abuse and mistreatment in the 3-4 years he has a guy.
I could write 10k words on my thoughts of why these guys are breaking down. To @DFresh11 part of it is the NBA is just a grind it’s hard and some guys hit the genetic lottery and don’t get hurt others don’t have that luck. But I’d place more blame on the mishandling of players in HS, Middle, Elem, AAU. A lot of these guys esp. the OAD are on the court 5-7 hours a day from the age of 4 or 5 through college. That’s entirely too much burn for even the most advanced body. Add in I’d bet few to none of those kids are getting the pre and re-hab they need to maintain that schedule.
By the time they reach college the knees are shot the back is damaged for compensating for weaknesses and they are building on a faulty foundation.
Man is exactly that. AAU after years of being on the hardwood. You never see those teams stretching for half hour post games I assume much less bags of ice for treatment etc.
I can tell you that even as early as college EVERY player is “hurt” and getting treatment almost daily. Load management in my time meant during the season guys playing 30 plus minutes and banged up (Bryant Stith) didnt always practice or just did certain things.
Of course Bryant almost had to be chained to the scorers table to keep him out of practice even
Love watching clips of him playing with Bird. Parrish incredibly smart and always had his hands ready when Larry Bird had the ball. Dude ran his ass off
Also I was HUGE Lakers fan and hated the Celtics. So couldnt appreciate their greatness until like age 40 or so
Also - Alvarado coming in for 19 minutes a game with super high energy the whole time knowing he doesn’t have to pace himself … 19 min in a 48 min game would translate to 16 minutes in a college game … this is the recipe for success for players like that.
Won’t lie I’m surprised and never had Trey pegged as possibly the best Hoo in the NBA when he inked to come to Charlottesville 3 years ago. His growth and the fact he raised his ceiling is impressive. Rumble young man rumble.
