Jay Wright was really magical. In a day where 6’9 forwards want to be guards, he had a way of convincing 6’5/6’6 wings to play center.

He had some retention superpowers too. You look at a guy like Brandon Slater, and I feel like at 99% of other schools, he transfers out at some point. Wright has him there for 5 years.

When will Duke offer?

I have a suspicion that if Mallory’s recruitment lasts until April, it won’t matter whether Duke offers or not. I don’t think he’ll be committing to Virginia. I could easily be wrong, but if the staff doesn’t close on him in the next few weeks, I imagine we won’t know the names of 2025 recruits until the AAU season is under way. And, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

‘The next few weeks’? Nobody is asking or expecting a commitment in the next few weeks. Both parties are focused on their respective seasons. Before summer is a more reasonable timeline to set for moving on.

I think the target is “by Easter” or so. In-season commitments are very rare. Not impossible; Guy was an in-season commitment. But usually both recruit and coach are too busy to really push anything when games are happening.
