I need to see more video, but so far I do not see Diakite or Key in his game. I hate to type it, but in the very limited clips I have seen, I kind of see a vague Tim Duncan-ness. Mobile. Good footwork. Long arms. Maybe not the highest of leaps. Good timing with blocks. Nice turnaround jumper. Cool demeanor belying a strong competitiveness. (like I wrote, just a few clips) But if he is Tim Duncan-reincarnate, he’d better not take to the rim against J-Willy in practice!
I totally agree that the fans are going to love him.
For me, the Mamadi comp is more about how he will be used. Mamadi was a high energy 4/5 who started his career by being a defensive specialist and dunking occasionally. As he got older he showed off some shooting touch. My hope is that Cofie has a quicker trajectory on the jumper
I can’t recall any previous Virginia player to whom a comparison can be made for Cofie. And, that’s just fine. Aside from the fact that I don’t feel the need to compare him to anyone, it might be useful to remember that there were no former players to whom the likes of Akil Mitchell, Joe Harris, Malcolm Brogdon, Justin Anderson, Kyle Guy, Ty Jerome, Mamadi Diakite, DeAndre Hunter, Braxton Key, and Reece Beekman could be compared, either. And, I don’t think this notion is limited to these players. Every player who comes to Virginia is unique.
Dunno. I kind of believe Tu on this one. Cofie commits, killing the spot for Hodge or Punch. Can then take visits - if he does, I hope Tony pulls the offer. Hopefully Cofie is fully bought in.
LMAO. Why would USC not push earlier. Cofie is liking Acaden Lewis’s instagram post and following UVA soccer players. He doesn’t need to visit Washington, he lives right by and there is nothing more to show him there.
I love Tu as a personality but he talks out his ass a lot and is wrong a lot. Like mentioning schools as a threat for kids who dont even have the school listed in their top 3 or 4 wrong. Or like saying UVA needs to recruit TyLaur Johnson repeatedly when staff had already passed due to red flags (as we are seeing at Louisville)
Not disagreeing with your assessment of Tu about hits and misses, but unlike many of his posts, this one, at least from a logic/logistical standpoint, is plausible - and plausible is very different from likely.
