Recruiting pitch, emphasis on our system, his ability to come in and contribute, (based on X, Y, Z factors) if baseball is a priority we have a top notch program and he’s welcome to explore that option, but at the end of the day we view you as a 5-star program changer and want you now. Hard recruiting sale, that sort of thing.
Haha, guilty.
He’s mentioned dual-sporting publicly and my take was that ND was pretty open to the idea. Radio silence on our position. Maybe not a top priority, but one he mentioned where we didn’t shine.
Tony Bennett? Surely you jest.
The spring and summer recruiting has shown how great Tony is at seeing underrated talent. Thre problem is that all these guys that Tony seen have now blown up and everybody wants them. We are not very good at drawn out recruitments.
If you are 6 8 and can shoot the 3 like he can he should never consider playing baseball again. Basketball has options in the us and abroad the contracts are getting bigger and bigger. Oh and baseball is boring af
It’s actually a funny story.
These funny stories are the reason i am losing my hair and have high blood pressure
Especially when said kid is clearly described as the ultimate “fit”, which is often thrown around for certain types of recruits.
This isn’t a bagman type kid / recruit and comes from a great family. Right up our ballpark. Close ‘em out Coach. No excuses.
Pretty sure I was making the opposite point but ok
I always wondered, since HGN and yall got me following recruiting, how do you close it out like that?
There are three generally accepted ways of closing out a recruit early: bags, compromising photos, Rock Paper Scissors
Isn’t the rule that you can take 5 visits during Jr year and then 5 more once you’ve started senior year?
Tony plays them in ping pong. He always closes on the hard top
The last of which I never lose in
I mean, one legitimate excuse is that people have free will. Coaches can make their best, most tailored, and most savvy pitch and it still won’t matter sometimes even if the kid is a perfect fit. It’s almost impossible to assess blame given the lack of clear insight we have into the nitty gritty of the recruiting process.

Never heard that one. Typically it’s a total of 5 official visit which can start your junior season (through your sr season).
I think that’s where each kid is different. I’m betting when Terry Holland recruited and closed out your recruitment, it was different than he did when he recruited Stith, Kenny Turner, John Crotty, etc. My guess is there’s no magical formula. You pitch the program, the school, and watch the kid as much as possible. It works early with some and not with others.

I’m pretty sure the rule changed within the last few years and that @paperboy is correct about the way officials work now.
Thanks bro. Didn’t realize that changed and it’s good to know.
I think I heard the same. You can take 5 visits your junior year, then it resets in the fall.
