Joe Harris is the best UVA comp, though Kon has a higher upside given his handle/ball skills, plus he’s a better shooter.
Shooting ability comp who played for Bennett, maybe Klay Thompson, with a little less athleticism at this stage.
He might be most like Luke Kennard though, in terms of a recent NBA comp from schools recruiting Kon.
If Kon gets as good as Joe he gonna make lotra money…
Yea but how does Sam use his height?
I think the issue we may run into with NIL is that we are competing against two to three other programs that can credibly claim they’re getting him to the NBA, depending how you feel about Marquette. So when your comparing across comparable options from an NBA perspective, an NIL package may be the deciding factor even if it’s not the most important one
UVa basketball NIL is strong. Unless Duke or UW came up with a 7 figure with a crooked number in front offer it’s going to make that much of a difference.
Sam is effectively the back up 2 guard for the Celtics right now. Comes off a lot of pin downs.
So mostly PF in college to a SG in pros. Mostly because he’s too slight to guard the bigger guys inside.
Yes. So how does being 6-9 help Sam?
I guess my answer to Fresh’s question is that a 6-7 elite shooter is gonna get opportunities that a 6-5 elite shooter won’t (both from front offices, and opposing defenders).
As for Joe, he and Kon are closer in size/height, but Joe was a much better run-jump athlete, IMO at the HS level. Check out his HS mixtape. That athleticism doesn’t pop as much in the ACC/NBA, but it’s what let him play at those levels (combined with elite shooting, of course).
@lodger96 brought up Kennard, which is interesting, but he’s a fading memory for me at Duke, and I have no idea what he looked like in HS
I thought he was more like 6’7", maybe.
Good point. Not sure where 6-9 came from. Anyway…
We listed him at 6-8, NBA lists him at 6-7, which I think is no shoes. Kon is 6-5 at 247, which I’m guessing is really more like 6-4 the NBA way?
With a better hair line
All I know is Ryan Dunn is looooooong and uses it all
True, but Kon’s robust and active social media profiles list him at 6’6.
It appears there are two sides to this issue. No objective truth. Just no way we can ever really know the facts here. (Yeah I’m doing commentary on the state of journalism in a post about a high school recruit. Come at me haters).
Modern day heights always subtract 2 inches unless it is Fla States roater
Fwiw, Kon showcases some more traditional athleticism in this new-to-me mixtape from the NY2LA thing his team went to in lieu of hanging out at the Peach Pit with Screech and Slater and Kelly Kapowski:
Ok fine. He is Luka just shorter. So he is not Luka
The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards @Hooandtrue’s Luka Koncic prediction
Joe Harris would be very similar as well in terms of Kon’s role in the future. If Kon is looking to be a point guard then the Ty comparison is fair.
