Looks like the rumor was just that. Much of the fire on the Sabre was coming from postings on fanlax and not from any insiders.

Also Shellenberger not returning was because of career opportunities he has next year and nothing to do with Lars.

Was Lars any good? I just started getting into lacrosse and have little knowledge on how good the coaches are.

Iā€™m hardly an expert at lacrosse strategy, but I do know that a lot of people have given varying degrees of credit for Tiffanyā€™s early successes at Virginia to Sean Kirwan who was the OC and is currently the head coach at Dartmouth.

Unfortunately Kirwan hasnā€™t been able to get Dartmouth off the ground in three years, 2-16 cumulative in the Ivy League in his term.

Non-UVA fans need to keep their mouths shut about Carla. 13 national championships in under ten years in her tenure and dumbass burnout football coaches who wonā€™t even look up her name are taking shots on Twitter.

I mean the high level outside fan seesā€¦

  • 2-time natty coach
  • Consistent top team (debatable)
  • Maybe know that there were some pretty public off field issues preceding him

The UVA or Lax fan sees all stuff above plusā€¦

  • Program was falling apart with Starsia for 4 years and Lars turned it around quickly
  • Lars is a really good high character guy
  • Didnā€™t we just replace a WBB, MBB and baseball coach? Why mess with Menā€™s Lax now?

Carla needs to have a top pick lined up here, would assume you only make the move if you do. Itā€™s a risky move and probably a head scratching one for most outsiders.

You just wonder, given the fact that rumors were going around for weeks, if Lars and carla could not come to an agreement on an extension, whether it was over pay, staff changes, UVas financial support for the program, etc.

I am pretty surprised since we had a pretty young team that would likely have been really good next year. I worry about the portal losses we might see with the change.

Lars was better with Kirwan and Turner. There has been some dissatisfaction with Lars throughout his tenure within the fanbase. Weā€™ll see who they get, Iā€™d like to think weā€™re still one of the most desirable situations in lacrosse.

Itā€™s primarily from a single poster, who seems like a former player, maybe parent.

Generally that Lars is unpredictable with players; consistently up and down. The assistants used to manage up, but now that theyā€™re gone itā€™s gotten worse. Led to bad morale and confusion in roles and player standing. Said all of the success came from assistants that are gone and alumni would all agree.

Then there are also some accusations of some SERIOUS off field issues that were swept under the rug. Iā€™d rather not perpetuate those rumors specifically but if true would look really bad on both coach and UVA. Also mentioned some pay to play with donations that occurred; donations came in from family and player shot up depth chart.
