Translation for those of us who don’t know what this means?

Also - friend of mine who works in the athletic department at U of Richmond said that folks were worried there that women’s basketball coach will regret his decision to leave there for UVA. Said that it’s widely known that Carla is very hard to work for. Interesting to hear that from someone inside another athletic department.

Any indication of what they mean by hard to work for? Like does she have too high of expectations? Not speak to people in a respectful manner? Just a weird personality? Not handle her end of things well? Something else?

This may be true in some way, I have no idea…but it hasn’t seemed to prevent us from getting our top choices in MBB, WBB and BB the past couple years.

I got the impression that the athletic department generally is just a difficult place to be - demanding, not warm or uplifting. I don’t know beyond that, but I was surprised, b/c she comes across as being so cool in interviews and such. I’ve never met her in person.

I don’t want to speak ill of your friend, but, to me, it sounds like U of Richmond has sour grapes about losing Roussell.

Carla has guided us through the huge upheaval that NIL and the portal has caused in college sports. if someone can do that and have everyone love her, great…but the fact that she has her detractors is not surprising at all. Tony Bennett, for one, loved working for her and there are plenty of quotes out there to support that.

There’s no way we fire a coach with multiple nattys within the last decade unless there were some significant issues behind the scenes. And people can say whatever they want about Carla, I don’t think axing coaches too soon/not giving a long enough leash has ever been one of the accusations made against her. If she made this move, I tend to believe there was something serious that precipitated it.

Reading the other board, my money is just on him losing the locker room and being somewhat of a negative personality. I’m guessing issues have stacked up over the years and connected alum, donors, and parents finally had enough and put the pressure on. Perhaps some former assistants were able to hold the ship together but it isn’t working anymore. That’s just guessing, but she didn’t fire him just because of an early NCAA tournament loss.

My totally uninformed guess is we hire the Dartmouth coach who was an assistant here a few years back. His record there isn’t good, but Dartmouth is also trash, and he was apparently well liked and coaches our style of lacrosse.

Star freshman who was #1 in his class, his star brother who will have two years left and their famous lacrosse dad threatening to leave if Lars not fired and current OC not promoted to HC. I think…

The Sabre poster seems to think the old OC (Kirwan) should be the call. He’s HC at Dartmouth now. Think current assistants weren’t strong enough to manage Lars.

Possible that she doesn’t know firsthand and is repeating what she’s heard, which comes with the speaker’s own perspective. But, truly, this person is genuinely one of the most positive people I’ve ever met. That’s why it surprised me to hear something negative.

In the end, though, it’s hearsay. Could be nothing.

Carla could be the worst AD in the country (she’s obviously not) and still any Richmond bball coach would crawl 60 miles to Cville if offered the job by her

Also Mark Millon seems like a pretty good guy.

If Lars isn’t a culture setter coach and he isn’t a tactical leader coach and he wasn’t a donor relations coach…what was he bringing to the job?

It’s not Carla, it’s Steve Pritzker.

Probably would have preferred to Keep Lars and bring back Kirwan as OC since he isnt doing so hot at Dartmouth.

But Lars have been pretty underwhelming given the talent he has had. the last few seasons. And not making the final 4 the year Scott Stadium is hosting is the ultimate sin tbh. Also seems like there was A LOT going on off the field

Saw Jerry dropped a story labeled ā€œreal reason Lars was let goā€ anyone have any factual reasoning on why??

No, but I’m sure Jerry doesn’t either

I’m paywalled out of Jerry. I thought I saw a summary that he insinuated that Lars left on his own because the Athletic Department wasnt interested in helping with fundraising for lacrosse (or other Olympic sports). And he didn’t want to fundraise.

I don’t trust anything from Jerry at this point. Maybe he has a source (Lars’ agent?) and there’s some truth but too much going on here to think Lars left on his own accord.

The Twitter account I linked above is promising to drop some stuff this weekend based on players, alumni and other sources. Hyping it to be spicy.
