Looking at the 2021 Recruiting Horizon

I was just sitting here wondering why there was a little piece of cake next to my name haha!

What is the similarity of Chandler and Keels? Chandler’s a PG. Duke already has Roach and Steward coming in. I would think their pursuit of Keels is independent of those others.

It would be bad enough to lose our top guy to Duke. I’m not sure what I think of us getting punked by Duke because they got beat by Tennessee. That disrupts the pecking-order conventional wisdom.

I think it’s part of the pitch that not having another pg like Chandler gives Keels more opportunity to be the main ball handler on the floor. In order to make the NBA that will be one attribute he has to strengthen and K will make pitches that when my main pg (Roach) is off the floor I let another guard (Grayson Allen/Gary Trent Jr) run the point for a little

The funniest part is that Brogdon is the prototype ā€œbig PGā€ Keels wants to be but people keep pointing to Duke as the place that he will be able to develop. I’m sorry, but this seems like typical underestimation of Bennett’s program yet again.

The 17-18 recruiting misses were supposed to hurt us last season the most after most of our studs left. Instead MFing Tony Bennett finished 2nd in the ACC. Now we prob wouldn’t have gone that far in the tourney with that team but we’ll never really know, will we …

Without Chandler though, there is a LOT more playing time which Keels camp may see as faster development and faster path to the NBA

I am saying you’re wrong. It is just what it is in the recruiting world’s eyes

Where is mostly hurt us was 2018 tourney, we had very little depth to replace the loss of hunter.

The recruiting world may not be reality. FWIW, I’m not sold on that Corey Evans update as accurate.

Of course. I agree with you there. Especially since Keels camp has been tight lipped

Who are examples of big guards at Duke that went on to play point in NBA? I’m sure there are some for all the talent they’ve wrung through Durham, but I’m drawing a blank. Brogdon and Jerome were both 6’5ā€ like Keels.

Not many recently I believe.

Not sold either but have since heard tidbits from reliable people that aligns with it. I don’t expect it to go on much longer either way.

What’s funny is last night I was checking Tweeter to see if anything was out. Ran across a Duke fan account, I assume, who claimed Duke is using Gary Trent Jr as a comparison for Keels. I’m biased but I think I would go with the staff using the Brogdon model when it comes to making a choice.

Friday bad news dump :grimacing:

Like I said, I don’t really buy it. But yeah it’s out there. Still think UVA is in the mix, and Villanova should be feared more. just that there’s no denying Duke is a major threat and at least their people, as in inside the program, believe it’s happening.

At this point I don’t even think it’s about anything more than the brand of Duke outweighing the other offers of UVA and Nova, which in my opinion make more sense to the kid. I think it’s all about showtime now, logic be damned.

I think they will be in for a rude awakening if he goes the Duke route and steward or roach stay, he won’t have the ball in his hands as much as he thinks early on.

People inside our program or the Duke program that think Duke will be the choice?

Duke fans thought they had no shot until Evans’ report. Now they claim they knew all along. Between Duke and Villanova fans, it’s an ass off.

I suppose I could see Trent a little bit, but he’s behind Lillard and McCollum as a ball handler for Portland. And he got outscored by Joe Harris last night and on the season

I was thinking maybe Austin Rivers, but he came in as a PG. And probably left Duke with less fanfare than he came in with.
