âStay wokeâ is a pretty old saying that goes back to at least the Civil Rights Movement. For most of that time it meant something along the lines of stay alert to people/companies/other groups who might try to posture themselves as allies but really had other intentions. Pay attention to whatâs really going on behind the niceties on the surface.
Matt Painter is a good listen here:

Given some of his past posts, such as quoting the âshut up and dribbleâ lady from Fox, ranting about the âChina controlled NBA,â ranting about Lebron âthriving off of China money,â I canât say Iâm surprised in the least to see him throw out the word âwoke.â Nor am I surprised by the really helpful âblah blah blahâ comments. Seems par for the course.
Thatâs an ideaâŚif they WANT to go to school. Otherwise you pay them for the work theyâre doing on the court. Since basketball or even any of the other spots have *nothing to do with an education- they just decide what team they want to play for.
My biggest question is where does all this magic money come from? And no one is a bigger proponent of these kids getting paid than I am
Exactly itâs being used as a subversive term to undermine, misinform, and condescend to people who are trying to have a real conversation.
Ok so it seems like the concern isnât that the athlete is having their school etc. âpaid forâ, itâs just the amount that you think they should be paid. Using that logic now theyâre free to negotiate- which is none of our business what their âsalariesâ are, as none of us on this board knows what any of each otherâs salaries are.
How much you think UVa scholarship players get now for housing expense? (in 1993 it was 186 dollars).
I know $186 doesnât sound like a lot for housing. But in 1983, I was paying less than $5,000 for everything â tuition and room and board and fees.
You got that right. I paid 188 per month my last year at Ashtree Apartments. So 2 bucks outta pocket. My place was enormous too
What I find interesting is that given the references above, Iâd guess his political persuasion runs toward a certain direction, which is the same political lean as the Justice who wrote the concurrent opinion in the case that led to where we are now. Yet he still manages to blame the âwokeâ other political side for the situation. ![]()
Come on guys. I know the can of worms was opened on up the thread and nobodyâs being nasty but letâs move on from the political angle. Never ends well.
Thatâs getting deletedâŚbut well done.
I want to say on one of the old podcasts, Mamadi said somewhere around a $1,000 a month or so for housing and incidentals.
you already know. 1,500⌠I asked him if he worked on Wall Street
Thatâs right. I remember that joke now⌠Too funny.
- my goodness man. He said he had to pay car insurance which was hilarious. Mamadi the best
See this is good shit
Just like the plot line in season 1 where they took a ferry from OBX to Chapel Hill, season 3 will have an equally unbelievable plotline where âMandoâ wins DPOY over stud PG âThreeceâ Beekman.
