💰 Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) Discussion

Had 0 idea where to put it and sounds like it’s an NIL rumor possibly.

It’s a couple of fake accounts with ESPN in their handle that reported allegations of tampering and vague NIL violations that don’t make sense.

Then as @AdventiveQuasar mentioned, people asking what’s going on or perpetuating a meme or fooled and responding to the fake news.

So what’s the rumor man? You’re hinting at it twice but not saying anything

He gave Bryce Hopkins a $40,000 Saint John’s chain in season. Paid for meals and paid players directly.

It’s not a rumor, it’s a troll job.

I’m trying to figure it out lmao. Sounds like made up bs.. wanted something juicy

Legend found it out here!

Gonna move eligibility talk/quasi-legal musing over here:

I’m wondering if Zeigler’s lack of particular individual circumstances are going to hurt him here…seems like judges are somewhat allergic to making too broad of a ruling (e.g. in the Fourqurean case, the judge really wanted it to only apply to the particular player), and Zeigler’s case has some “open the floodgates” potential.

Also, I missed that there was a case in Tennessee after the Pavia case that would be not favorable for Zeigler: Judge denies Alberto Osuna’s bid for injunction as he attempts to play baseball for Tennessee | AP News

I posted this in the other thread too.

Well, let’s hope he won’t need to wear a tie at the next level with those “skills”.

Honestly though, this is probably the most likable version of Dickinson I’ve seen. And with that, he can fade away for good :crossed_fingers:

This is a long read, but I feel like the takeaway is that the NCAA is either a) dying or b) already dead but unaware of that fact.

Yeah it feels like Sankey might have broken the seal saying the quiet part out loud here–

That “autonomy” division or whatever sounds like the type of bullshit everyone will go for though!

The NCAA is like one-hour photo places in the early 2000s. They’re still needed for the time being, but it’s clear they’ve got no future.

I think the NCAA does some things well that the conferences would like them to continue doing, but with different financial arrangements perhaps.

Like organizing the national championship tournaments and handling logistics for dozens of sports for men and women in D1, D2 and D3. They’ll probably keep doing that, but won’t keep the media revenue from them.

Maybe initial eligibility determination via the clearinghouse or even applications for waivers for extra eligibility. Maybe the conferences want to have a degree of separation from that process and not expose themselves to litigation.

But governance, rulemaking, enforcement, anything to do with money, the P2s not going to let them anywhere near any of that.

Yeah they are a glorified events business with a lobbying arm attached. Pretty much everything else is overreach.

Most of their value beyond holding non-revenue championships was as an industry group to fight for athletes not to be paid, but now that has morphed into having them not be school employees, and I am not sure every school/conference agrees with that.

I can see the eligibility decisions need, but if all of their decisions are going to start lawsuits and piss people off, you might need to take that away from them too unless they get some form of antitrust exemption from Congress.

Can I place a parlay future on these 3 teams being in the CWS together in 2028? And probably doing well in a lot of other stuff too.

I don’t see a reason not to. I know there are some legitimate financial accounting things we have to check the box on to do this, playing with the max number of scholarship spots feels like the most cost efficient way to spend some athletics money.

Is our plan to go a little short of max and manipulate AccessUVa a la Vandy baseball? I thought rules tightened up on that a bit, but wouldn’t shock me if the new scholarship limit stuff undid that tightening up?

I still think we’re 1-2 years away from college sports going in the drain..
