What a gutless wording. āCommitted domestic violence.ā

Flying to Montgomery this afternoon⦠Hope everyone is well!

Yea. I think the tweet was gonna be about how many HS the dude attended. Maybe shoulda coulda stopped at that
Youāre in my neck of the woods Montgomery only about 2hrs from the house
Yep⦠Iāve flown into Atlanta before and rented a car to get here in the past.
Annual Air Force conference⦠always last week of August.
Nice Montgomery gonna be overrun by yāall. Donāt get caught slipping on the riverfront
Wonāt be walking too much. Lol. Still only 2 months out from the Achilles surgery.
This kid turned down UVa, went to UNC, then went to Auburn. So I enjoyed this. Plus this Giannis bro was a Westchester knick with Darion

Ken Pom stole my idea! (the Elite 8 poll) Not really, I guess I stole it from him. But still.
But seriously ā this is a good idea!! But also, do I really have to rank all 350+ teams?**
https://kenpom.com/blog/the-h-u-m-a-n-poll/
** I should have read, the answer is no, heās got a pretty cool idea of how to do this. Donāt listen to people who say bad things about KenPom. Even if it is your favorite podcast about your favorite team (@DFresh11). KenPom is a mensch!
@AdventiveQuasar @tlgoudy @DavetheWave @zh00s Or any other stat-heads I am forgetting ā where do you find splits for transition buckets? As in, how many of our FGs or points or whatever come in transition, compared to other D-1 teams. On a quick look, I didnāt see it at any of the usual suspects (KenPom, Torvik, Hoop-Math)
Haney finally showing his colors as a Hokie-enthusiast.
Edit - That having been said, KenPom is a national treasure.
No clue what mensch means but sounds derogatory so I will agree
Hoop Math has percentage of shots attempted in transition and eFG on those shots, on the team offense leaderboard.
One of many Yiddish expressions I got from my Catholic mom who grew up in the Bronx in a mixed Catholic/Jewish neighborhood.
@AdventiveQuasar Thanks!
Good call out⦠Was hard to find most places except the live stats sites ⦠I used to keep special stats for my alma mater and a few games in the NCAA Tournament⦠lots of human error potential ⦠points off turnovers, points in the paint, fast break points, 2nd chance points, hockey assists, etc.
And designated home teamās stat crew is always the official stats ⦠and they can be different than reality or the visiting teamās stat crew a lot.
I remember a road game where our team had something like 30 made FGās for 19 assists and the official stats were 6 assists ā¦
Dang Iām honored! I also have no idea.
The three man weave thread about our team this year had a table with it over the last 5 years. Not sure where they pulled from.
Hereās what I donāt understand ā The numbers in the āunder 10ā categories sum to the transition numbers, but the total, then, is only 86.4%. Where are the other initial shot attempts?
(this is a cut and paste from hoop-math.com for 22-23 Virginia)
The data in this table relate to the initial shot attempts of possessions. Transition shots are defined as occuring within the first 10 seconds of a possession after a steal, defensive rebound, or opponent score.
| Start of Poss | % of initial attempts | eFG% | % Shots at rim | FG% at rim | % Shots 2pt Jumpers | FG% 2pt Jumpers | % Shots 3pt | FG% 3pt |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rebound, 0-10 s | 9.2% | 48.3% | 45.5% | 60.0% | 23.8% | 35.3% | 30.8% | 27.3% |
| Rebound, 11-30 s | 27.7% | 52.7% | 34.3% | 59.9% | 25.4% | 38.5% | 40.3% | 37.0% |
| Opp score, 0-10 s | 3.0% | 63.8% | 57.4% | 81.5% | 10.6% | 40.0% | 31.9% | 26.7% |
| Opp score, 11-30 s | 38.5% | 48.3% | 29.0% | 57.8% | 32.8% | 35.7% | 38.2% | 34.6% |
| Steal, 0-10 s | 4.6% | 62.7% | 70.4% | 64.0% | 5.6% | 50.0% | 23.9% | 41.2% |
| Steal, 11-30 s | 3.4% | 56.7% | 26.9% | 50.0% | 26.9% | 42.9% | 46.2% | 45.8% |
| Transition | 16.8% | 55.0% | 54.4% | 65.5% | 16.5% | 37.2% | 29.1% | 30.3% |
Off the top of my head, I think itās:
100% half court
0% transition
I find very interesting the line including numbers after an opponent scores. I 've long coached my soccer teams to press and attack really hard and really fast after an opponent scores as there is human nature to relax after a score and they are vulnerable. Did it again this weekend against a very good team that was better than us ⦠lost 3-1 and our one goal was about 15 seconds after they scored.
Those are some crazy good numbers in first 10 seconds after a score ⦠albeit very few attempts. And the FG% at the rim in those cases being 17% points higher than after steals is eye opening.
Iāll let one of my favorite movies explain for the uninitiated:
