Will have to check that out.

Good job by Ron and those losers
Ron re TJ Power (19:00):
āMy encouragement to him is to play unconscious. If you take a shot and you miss it I will not take you out of the game. Iāll take you out of the game if you have an open shot and you DONāT take it.ā
Embrace the Space
Love it. Iām a little less cynical about hearing this after seeing the NC State game.
Hahaha he also said Journey about 5 words prior to space.
Whenever it hits me or when I feel like it, I will periodically Post either something I absolutely want to see in the new regime or some thing I absolutely donāt wanna seeā¦.
In watching Sanchezās media availability today I was reminded of something I absolutely donāt wanna see.
Iāve now heard him say several times that we got a defensive stop, but we couldnāt secure the reboundā¦. Hilarious to me that a coach would think they got a defensive stop without securing the rebound. The only time a defensive stop occurs without securing a rebound is a steal or an unforced turnover.
The current regime mindset is because we donāt go to the offensive rebounds, then if you stop someone by getting them to miss a shot that is considered a stop.
Whoever the new coach is, I would prefer that he would never say we gotta stop, but couldnāt secure the rebound. It doesnāt exist.
That is all for now
Love this kind of content⦠Hoos should do more of it.
I was listening to the cavs corner podcast this morning. Shout out BRad Franklin and crew who do a nice job with that.
They talked about Louisville as a model for a turnaround. (Not that we would do the same - but more like āitās possibleā). I bristled because I donāt know if they are a good model given our transfer/graduation restrictions. Which are essentially that you need two years worth of credits at UVa to graduate from Uva and admissions seems to bristle at letting guys in who donāt intend to graduate (Warley being a bit of a potential counter example on the latter point, perhaps).
I think that Vandy and Michigan are better models, given that I assume they have similar academic restrictions. So taking a Quick Look at roster composition, I see:
- Ivy League guys. Grad transfer and otherwise (Wolf isnāt a grad, is he?)
- a couple Covid 5th years (Hoggard and Goldin)
- a handful of guys transferring from other high majors after their sophomore year
- Only one holdover playing a big/starting role (Nimari Burnett)
Feels like an interesting model for us, though we wonāt have the luxury of the Covid 5th year anymore.
I didnāt look too hard at the freshmen (though none are playing a big role, from a quick glance), nor did I look at recruiting pipeline.
Iāve kinda resigned myself to another down year next year, but if we succeed, I think we may need to lean a bit more on younger guys.
Well, I guess what I want is that ā given that Covid 5th year is ending, and given that we are trying to build not necessarily wow in year 1 ā we focus a bit more on the future and be happy if the future arrives early.
Also regarding the 5th year ⦠we wonāt have to play against 24 year olds anymore either so being younger isnāt as younger as it has been recentlyā¦. Itās a big reason Kentucky was down in this era. And a big reason Arkansas is struggling this year⦠the age gap will be smaller next year⦠that being said a lot of guys are staying 4 years that wouldnāt have before to maximize college earnings.
But agree about Louisville⦠they can bring in anyone they want to and the Virginia administration needs to get with modern times. let the athletes in ā¦.it aināt that many of them ā¦come on people!!!

Hereās another post in my series of things. I absolutely want to see or absolutely donāt want to see in the new regime as far as style and mind frameā¦.
When the opponent scores a basket, I donāt want to see anybody on our team hang their head. I want to see the ball taken out and across half court the other direction in five seconds or less ā¦.a lot of times the best time to score is when the opponent has just scored because they are celebrating physically and mentally ā¦..Iāve seen it in the NBA. Someone gets a big dunk and they hang on the rim and while theyāre hanging up there, the other team takes it out immediately rushes up court and has a 5om 4 or a four on three.
I think we should take our cues from our academic peers. If Duke, Michigan, Vandy, UNC, et al change a bit, then I think we should change.
I could also be convinced that our transfer restrictions are unnecessarily restrictive in general,** but I think thatās a decision that needs to be made overall and not for athletics.
** I think elite academic institutions are too invested in the idea of scarcity. Like, if Harvard is so good at education, they canāt figure out how to scale up?
My school was 15 of your last 24 credits had to be there to post your degree from there.
Surely UVA could go to 30 of your last 45 or something?
An evening of Texas Roadhouse takeout and AFV with the family⦠My 8 year old goes - letās watch AFV and I say - instead of
The Hoos? And he says - well theyāre just as clumsy on AFV z little dude aināt wrongā¦![]()

And yes way better than whatever happened in JPJ
IT aināt just about athletics, either. UVa needs to scale up.
I can pretty confidently say that I (CLAS 94) would not get in to UVa (CLAS 29) with my profile. Now maybe Iām not the best example, but do most alumni think that UVa is a better institution 30 years later because itās comparatively harder to get in to?
As a state University, I think UVa should scale up. Not Michigan size, but the Universityās academic standing will not be sullied if we let enrollment grow.
Itās an interesting problem. Many LACs have expanded significantly over the last 30 years (my undergrad Alma mater is up 40-50%), and a lot of state schools have as well. However, I think the window for that has partially passed. Smaller, less selective schools have been gradually competed out of existence and not only will the trend continue, I think the LaCs are finally hitting a ceiling on what they can charge.
Scaling up takes money and a lot of time, and I think the future of collegiate academy is cloudier than the last few decades.
IMO- The clear model of the future for state schools is what the SEC has done with their honors colleges. You get all the perks of a big SEC school and most of the perks of a more selective state school like us from those honors colleges. Itās an attractive offer to smart high schoolers.
Whatās LAC? Despite having an opinion (what else is new), I donāt really have much exposure to these topics.
