That’s true. I believe Igor is our first Euro in a while. Maybe in the Bennett era. My data was Euros. Most of our imports have been Oceania. But I think they’ve gotten lumped together analytically.
Yup - Igor is almost 20 years old and his dad is literally a professional basketball coach. Tbf, I think missing most of the summer in Cville probably wasn’t ideal.
Relatedly, Igor’s dad is now Poland’s FIBA coach. The European Championship is in September 2022 (Why not July?). I really hope Igor Jr is not planning to participate…
My opinion is the real euro guys never sniff US colleges. or any college. It would be like Neymar Jr coming to UVa to play soccer for couple years before going pro.
And this is no disrespect to players from europe that do go to US colleges. I also think (know) there is an enormous adjustment for these guys in lots of ways
Int’l guys have a big adjustment; no doubt. But so does every kid. Yes, the international adjustment is much bigger. I think that came across in @ElliottHoo 's daughter’s interview with him.
Tony should have offered Luka ![]()
US dudes spend 2-4 years playing each other all over the country in AAU etc. Familiar with each other, the culture, all of it. Things even move differently for foreign kids and language etc.
I played in Brasil for couple 3 years and all these things were the case. But I still got buckets and talked shit in portugues…
Plenty of Euros came and played in college here before going pro… Markannen and Petrusev and Poltl and Cosic and Goran Suton and Vrankovic and Davor Rimac and Zidek and Lubos Barton Drejer and Lars Hanson and Ayayi and Sarr and Pons come to mind.
Heinrik Rodl. what did those guys do after college? Sorry, I dont know the names or schools they played for etc
Lets shallow dive on Goran. Got minutes as a freshman averaged 3 per game. solid last three years around 10ppg. Drafted NBA cut back to europe
Suton averaged 15 minutes a game and started 6 times as a freshman - is that too much to ask?
And all I was asking was 10 min a game each for Igor and Taine. And that Michigan State team had 3 dudes who had an NBA cup of coffee and 3 Parade All Americans and was an NCAA Tournament team.
Methinks we don’t have that level of talent ahead of Igor and Taine.
Something told me you would deeper dive than me on this one
We seem to forget how young these kids are. It takes time like everything else. I’m not saying Mal is that kind of talent but are Taine or Igor? Time is a pretty good predictor.
I will say I believe Igor’s potential is through the roof.
Also he doesnt count. went to HS in Lansing. so his hoop days pre college hes american
I didn’t realize that about him. But I only listed like 5% of the guys that I found.
Here’s something few people would know. They did try recruiting Luka Samanic, the 19th pick in the 2019 Draft from Croatia.
Ron Sanchez went over there to see him in the Fall of 2017 when he was still considering the college route.
I get it. you just brought my competetive side out so I went in! inadvertant cherry pick maybe
Vecenie put out his mock draft 5.0. First round guys that we were somewhat involved with:
Sochan, Kessler, Baldwin Jr, Houston, and Keels.
Baldwin is having an absolute horrific year. Would have been funny to see him sit on TB’s bench and still get drafted late lottery.
I love being able to banter with you guys and the fact that no one here takes themselves too seriously…. Makes it fun!
No question there. Love talkin shit especially knowing I am always right…
