🎶 Nostalgia Songs thread

I remember in the early 90’s, I was in the DC area about half the time, and Cville about half the time. I’d record and/or buy stuff they’d play on WPGC 95.5 & WKYS 93.9 out of DC, and play it for friends in Cville because no stations down there were playing it yet.

And this was well before the days of YouTube or Spotify…now any kid in rural North Dakota can download new stuff as soon as it comes out.

This song always takes me back to my middle school days…

Went to see Blues Traveler at Scott Stadium while a student…

This one hit wonder band and song opened for them…

Then Blues Traveler refused to play below… so everyone left disappointed…

I never liked that song per se, but it was so ubiquitous on rock radio one summer when I was in college that it does take me back to a certain time/place. Perfect entry into the genre…

Plus I really haven’t heard it much since.

The polar opposite is their song “Bad Day” which is a terrible song and loves on in numerous terrible ways and brings me nothing but pain and suffering.

Well, not thy bad, but you get the point

Edit - scratch that. Different band (same song title, I think, but not the terrible one)

I actually specifically called it up on spotify the other day. no real clue why.

Make sure you throw Hemorrhage on while you’re at it. And very true, you almost never hear Shimmer on the radio but the rare time I do, it’s instant nostalgia

What is this thing called radio you speak of?

Fuel is one of those bands that I don’t know their songs by name nor did I like them, but like you said I remember them being in heavy rotation on the radio when I was in college and so I recognize the songs when I hear them and they take me back. I also have no desire to go out of my way to listen to them.

So my son picks me up one night last week to get dinner, and this one pops up on his playlist in the car. He says “these guys are from your era…ever heard of them?”

Yeah, maybe. I only had to buy a second copy of this cassette tape because the first one wore out :rofl:

One of my favorite bands of all time (and one of my favorite concerts in a small venue). Maybe later I’ll do a comment with a fuller selection, but was listening to this this morning and thought I’d drop it here.

Small, but one of my favorite lyrics from this one:

‘Well the point was fast, but it was too blunt to miss.

Life handed us a pay check and we said, “We worked harder than this!”’

Float On is probably my very favorite song.

When I first moved to Virginia Beach in 2007, I saw them at The Norva. Was a fantastic, wild show. Only downside, they didn’t play Float On.

To keep from getting banned I will not link some of my favorite college music. Suffice it to say Morrissey came to C’ville my 3rd or 4th year. I offered to buy a ticket for anyone to go with me, roommate, girlfriend (now wife) and had zero takers. I should have gone solo.
