Was only looking at the UVa guys, good call. If enough people look at this stuff, we can figure it out.
Trey Green announcing his commitment August 6th
Just a slightly different take here: ââŚplayers [who] would be in big trouble if he came off the straight and narrowâŚ.â Right
Flip side: I remember when I used to help out with some of the tutoring staff⌠some highly recruited kids (having been solid âBâ students in HS, nice kids, not afraid to work) who would come to UVA and be way surprised by the speed of the academic game.
Good news? I suspect the coaches understand that they need to recruit kids with good academic potential and that they need to have those support services in place and ready for kids who are going to face big-time jobs in managing their time, using effective study strategies, etc.
One could argue that those kids who may not have all the flashy spin moves when they drive the hoop, but who know that they are going to have to workâboth in the gym and the classroomâare the blue-chip recruits for UVA.
x100. Letâs hope Gertrude is both (flashy and lunch pail guy)
Thatâs the nail in the coffin
Despite being generally optimistic about the PG slot⌠I mean, come on. We couldnât even get him to visit? And heâs the guy we were prioritizing coming out of the last live period at our position of greatest need? Yeeesh.

My manifestation powers are too strong yâall. Itâs going to be the #GertrudeandCosbyshow along with #pointgodMcKneely and #LePowerJames
Damn. Not surprised, 99% sure he committed on the visit. Insta follows never lie.
Still shocked No one wants to be our pg of the future. Canât give away the lottery here
They know the 2023 pg isnât going to be the pg of the future. Makes even more sense to take that developmental future nba pg in Gertrude who can develop into that secondary ball handler/onball creator in 2-3 years.
Ty Davis is inevitable (and interests me more than all the 2023s. That kid is just Ty Jerome itâs uncanny).
Itâs gonna be Gertrude and some pg we havenât heard of yet. No green no Cosby no power
Check that, itâs gonna be Gertrude and Power, Z said 2/3 so obviously his one off was Green. We good
Wish we could reclass Ty Davis.
My opinion remains that we need a '23 point guard.
Iâm not in the camp of believing Gertrude is it, not in '23, not in '24. I think heâs a shooting guard for at least two years and then, maybe a combo.
Missing on Green I think it is Elmarko or a transfer this spring or some guy whose name we canât spell without looking it up.
We have the same take really. And people like you helped me ton. No doubt thank you for the clarification
- re: the top 500 big board. Lol! Sorry about that. I didnât even read it past the first few. He ranks 50 or so. Ironically, Jabri is the first non-ranked guy listed. That mustâve been the giveawayâŚ
- Green may not want to play with silent commit Elmarko already on board? Trying my hooandtrue manifestation skillsâŚ
Either get a late riser we like in â23 or just focus on the â24 PG and a transfer after Reeceâs last year. Just a guy to bridge the gap so we donât have to start Ty Davis as a freshman. Also think Mckneely and Gertrude could MAYBE play spot minutes at 1. Nothing definite there though.
pretty much. 23 point guard is a hard sell when iâm sure they know that tony is eying 24 pgs like davis. I
I agree with you that Gertrude needs to cook a little. I think the recent development (not for me cause I was insane enough to think of McKneely as a pg last year cause im stupid but also just lucky sometimes) of coaches raving of McKneelyâs playmaking change the equation some. McKneely ainât Rondo but we have had worse back ups for the pg spot for 5-10 minutes in the past. If Reece is gone after this year we were getting a grad transfer/senior transfer pg anyways
I agree.
We had six future NBA players on the team that won the natty. None of them were considered NBA prospects out of High School, except maybe Mamadi. They were willing to buy in and work and they developed. Those are the kind of guys we need.
I think I mentioned this in the VIP thread but it was interesting to note the Gonzaga mod touched on the fact that the 2023 class is so behind because of COVID developmentally and exposure wise that you will see kids pop up during the regular school year moreso than years in the past due to the development, kids who play on non-shoe circuit teams getting more exposure, etc.
Something to keep in mind I think. Kids who are usually late offers/fall and winter offers are the usual âreachesâ of past years. Not as many established knowns at the end of this summer compared to previous years.
