A dude told me once when I worked in a convenience store in HS⊠âItâs not Thursday man⊠itâs Little Friday!â⊠as he bought 4 bottles of Boonâs Farm.
Had a different name in my day. Like @BDragon said it felt kinda upscale hahhahah
Yeah⊠I donât think it was called that when I was there.
Really? Thatâs the hill youâre going to die on: The smelliest tree in Charlottesville? The one that has you checking the soles of your shoes every time you walk past because you think you stepped in something?
The most obvious answers have been taken already, so Iâll say what I miss the most is unfettered access to Scott Stadium. We used to be able to just walk in and play a pickup game on the field. I remember one day after a heavy rainstorm when the field was one giant Slip âNâ Slide. Was almost as much fun as playing in two feet of snow on the Lawn. Now they got fences and everything.
Wow great call
⊠or when they didnât have those stupid trees blocking the field view from New Dorms⊠that was the most stupid thing the administration did when they planted those.
Haha, yes! In fall when it turns bright gold itâs one of the most beautiful trees on grounds. Absolutely love it.
I am big tree guy though. My friends know that when I give tours of UVA to visiting folks, Iâm not just going to point out the trees currently there, but also where beautiful trees used to be that are no longer. I donât think my tree ghost tour will ever really take off, but Iâll never stop.
Haha love it. My first 2 or 3 yrs we would do Malt Liquor Madness on Thursdayâs at the rugby house $20 would buy a case (12) Forties. Enjoy a couple of those before heading out to the bar for Big ass beer night $2 22oz.
⊠Friday class was a joke.
We need to chat one day⊠I was a U-Guide and gave both the admissions tours as well as the historical tours⊠would love to go on your ghost tree tour!
40âs are the main reason 1992-95 is still a little fuzzy for me. Thank God social media didnât exist back then.
Would love to hear the historical tour info again.
When I showed up to UVA for the first time to move in, I didnât know what to expect because Iâd never visited or taken a tour before as I was coming from some distance away (had seen a pics on promo materials but was 18 and wasnât really internalizing them). Maybe two or three days into orientation somebody was like âWe should go down to the lawnâ and I just said âWhatâs that?â and they looked at me strangely. Then we got down there and I was like âOh⊠I ended up at a pretty nice school!â
I wish they hadnât torn down the Rotunda. Did we really need another Starbucks that badly?
They tore down my 1st year dorm Balz too. The whole strip from Balz to Tuttle were all torn down and rebuilt into new New Dorms. Canât say Iâve ever come back and trekked up that goddamn hill to see what where I spent a year of my life looks like now though.
Agree. In better news though, I think they relegated O-Hill to the dustbin of history where it belongs (or at least renovated it)
Pretty sure it was Margaritaâs before it was Michaelâs. And before it was the Biltmore it was K.L. Christies and before that Graffitiâs.
Also miss the China Seafood Hut and the Aloha. And it wouldnât kill me if they (successfully) brought back St. Maartenâs.

And before it was the Biltmore
Biltmore Grill! That is what I know it as. Thanks!
Actually mayne it could be turned into an Top Golf with yardage down the lawn!
Does anyone remember the name of the one Vietnamese restaurant that was in town in the late 90s? I went a few times and the owners kids would help with the tables and do their homework when they werenât waiting tables. And by kids I mean like 10 year old kids.
Although not in the University area, miss Barnabyâs Pizza.
As mentioned, I miss Tuttle from an emotional standpoint. The beach suite was exactly that, sweet, and the stereo playing on a sunny day with all the people up the hill enjoying the day was something to behold.
Someone mentioned there was easy access to Scott Stadium - true, but on Sunday mornings for those who were not too incapacitated from the previous evening, it wasnât too hard to slip into U-Hall and get a few games in.
