I think Pope might be living in Hampton now or that area. He was back in the Hopewell area for a time working with Wali Rainer on some community projects in the Tri Cities.
From what I can tell, Pope doesnât really want the spotlight these days but thatâs second hand info.
In 1995, they lost in states to Kecoughtan with Marseilles Brown (Richmond/Hampton) and a big guy who ended up at Loyola (Abraham). They were really good.
Tyrone Robertson. Played for my high school coach, Harry Johnson. Coach Johnson retired after finally winning the state championship in '96. We never got close when I was in high school despite having Johnny Newman and Ferrell Edmunds in the same frontcourt. Although in my brotherâs junior year ('79-'80), GW lost to a Garfield squad led by Othell Wilson in the Northwest Region final (state quarters).
Really old memory - Iâm pretty sure that the nicknames for Iavaroni and Koesters in their 1st year were Cisco and Bong. Trigger for this memory was song by War on my Sirius XM ride home.
I was talking to a friend who used to teach at the nuclear sub school or something in Florida and he started talking about his days serving on a sub and he called his crew mates Submariners. What got me curious is that he pronounced it sub and the name of the Seattle baseball team and I always thought is was submarine-ers. I trusted he was right since he actually served on a sub and I rode in one at Disney once.
My dad wanted to go into the Navy and work on subs, but they told him heâd have to enlist for 6-years instead of 4⊠so he joined the Air Force instead⊠RED HORSE
