Man thatās awesome. Watson one of my favorite players all time. Battled him a lot in HS and in college cannot express the amount of respect I have for him. Also big props for him taking the move back across the ocean and striving to set up something special. Love to see the guys doing big things.
Trav was the epitome of a dawg, dog
Didnāt necessarily want to start a new thread on this, so figured Iād throw it here. The Beer Lovers thread got me wonderingā¦I know everyone didnāt have those expensive palates as broke college students. What were some of your āgo toā cheap beers before you started making an actual professional salary?
Mine were mostly Nattie Light, Busch Light, Milwaukeeās Beast. Along with whatever ML caught my eyeā¦OE, St Ides, Blue Bull, Mickeyās, Crazyhorse, Private Stock.
What was your poison back in the day?
Miller high life 40s
My circle of friends fell into Busch/Busch Light with Bud Heavy as our fancy beer for special occasions. Back then, I had very strong opinions about cheap beers. Hated Natty Light for some reason, even though Iām now fairly certain theyāre all the same. ![]()
Definitely Blue Bull for me. We even started a MLS (Malt Liquor Society) in 93 at UVa. Very exclusive group
Edit: good point on tall boy Bud heavies. Also Coors Banquets for me with post game money
MGD was our āfancyā choice.
Was hanging out at my sonās not too long ago, and had a Nattie Light for the first time in awhile.
Confessionā¦I never one time tried Coors Banquet until I saw it on Cobra Kai (the Karate Kid spin-off) a couple of years ago. Tried it at a sports bar one night after that ![]()
I really did not like beer at all in college⦠I drank it, but it was not something that was good⦠so I did not have a go-toā¦
Ha. I was early to the game on that one
The Bull for sure
Mickeys was another great one
Remember, a time well , me and a buddy killed a six pack of the little grenades in one of the parking lots before turning it up in TJās!
Milwaukeeās Best and Schaeferāsā¦not too tasty, but got the job done. Rolling Rock was my fancy beerā¦
Milwaukeeās Best (usually light for some damn reason). On a couple of occasions we got kegs of Lone Star. That stuff was terrible, both in smell and taste.
Hahahah. I was waiting for someone to come with Rolling Rock
Bud (longnecks, preferably) if I was flush, Busch if I was broke. I used to go to a bar back home and bring in my own 12-pack of Busch cans, 6 in each sleeve of my ski jacket with the hand holes cinched up. Iād hang my jacket on the coat rack and go back to my sleeve whenever I needed a beer. Obviously, this racket only worked in the winter. I did it 3 or 4 times and never got caught, even though the bar didnāt serve Busch. I probably paid $9.99 for the twelve pack, whereas 12 Buds from the bar would have cost me 3.5x that.

I didnāt usually get beer hangovers but one night of Rolling Rock gave me one of the worst headaches I ever had. Never had it a second time.
Old guys talking beers? Finally a topic I can get behind.
My go to in college was Miller High Life Donnaās Carryout next to my apartment you could get a 12 pack for $5.97.
If I was at a bar Miller Lite.
Parties we drank Beast or Beast Lite the kegs were cheapest, occasionally we went with Icehouse.
All my friends drank Nati Lite which I hated with a passion but would drink if you were buying.
On Thursdayās we did Malt Liquor Madness at the rugby house and that was 40s of Cobra usually.
I had almost forgotten the odd āice beerā phenomenon of the late 90s/early aughts.
Oh yea that was a thing Bud Ice, Nati Ice, Beast Ice⦠a blip in time.
Also was reminiscing with my wife and in-laws a while back, remember when Killians, Honey Brown and Becks were like the top of the beer food chain? Ever tried one as an adult? They hold up about as well as an American Pie Movie⦠(reference)
