Rented a place on Plank Rd back in 2012 (heading towards 20 side, not heading towards Batesville side) and Dr. Hos was a 10 minutes drive, frequented a lot.
Prior to that, I had a number of Cville and North Garden friends who worked there under the previous owners. We would go often, sometimes stay after closing, pull the blinds and party down.
It was also a nice stop for a beer on the way out to Wayneās Lanes when that was still around. $1 bowling, $2 shoe rental. Couldnāt beat that
I donāt recognize the names. I also donāt remember Little Caesars delivering or having independent storefronts back then. I think I only remember them inside of KMart and you could only order pizzas by the pair because their ovens were incapable of making single pizzas. My brother and I got breadsticks and sauce from there mainly.
I know Iām about to say something most wonāt agree with, but I actually like Little Caesars when itās literally out of the oven, fresh. Not sure what happens to it when it cools off and/or sits awhile but donāt like it all after the freshness is gone.
We used to have people order pizzas for delivery where they wanted us to make it, cook it and then put it in our walk-in freezer for 30 minutes before delivery. Super weird.
I can remember back in the day - living paycheck to paycheck - when it was a real ātreatā when I brought āpizza pizzaā home. It was convenient and less expensive - and got the job done. Canāt remember the last time I had a slice, probably decadesā¦.
I will be in Italy next month and will be on the lookout for a few pies!
Yeah, and I think a lot of Crozet Pizza 's longtime popularity and fame for 40+ years was Bobās introduction of New York style pizza to the area. Itās not terrible now, but itās not close to what it was for those of us who went to UVA back in the day. Meanwhile, there have been some really great pizza places here locally that have surpassed it. Iām happy you had a great experience! Crozet is a great area right now. I ran into Sean Singletary a couple of weeks ago.
I love eating at the Cicchetti bar, pretty cool that they serve the full menu there. Went there last week at like 9:30 on a lark and TB was finishing up dinner at the table behind me.
Reddit detectives saw that thereās a permit application in for "Interior renovation of an existing restaurant to a new restaurantā so thereās something that will be there.
Iām sad to see them go, their scallion puff pancakes remain an iconic part of my kidsā childhoods. But, honestly, theyāve been coasting on past glory for years.
This is just a rumor BUT was told yesterday that Peter Changās is closing but will reopen after a full renovation of the space. Story I got was Peter was not pleased with the condition of the space so he told landlord he wanted more money for TI and they agreed.
Space wasnāt in good shape for sure and theyāve been uneven at best food wise. I honestly thought Peter had moved on to other projects, so good to hear that he might still be involved.
@BillyHoyle Do you know whatās going into the old Blue Moon Diner space?
