It was awesome. Everybody was happy and we had lots of sharing plates which was perfect.

The local was pretty packed but we got there an hour and a half early and the southern crescent had a guy on the keyboards playing dr. John and other New Orleans style music and that was also quite nice.

Belmont is pretty quaint these days and feels a bit like an escape from downtown mall/corner on a Big weekend with kids in town.

Couldn’t have asked for a nicer evening and appreciate the good advice. I also have a few more places to go for next time.

Wahoowa!

We were at the Local on the Sunday following the VPI&SU game in Hooville (not that I went to the game or anything  Not surprisingly it was very quiet, easy parking. I’d never been to that little part of town - pretty neat little neighborhood with several places to eat and drink.

Belmont’s great, but sadly parking usually isn’t easy.

It makes me smirk realizing that Belmont is now quaint and low key chill spot nowadays

No doubt! Not always the case.

Yup not the Belmont I remember and grew up with

Used to live on Altavista Ave, then about a block from Clark Elementary…brain dumping the street right now though. Over Thanksgiving my mom showed me a pic of a house not too far from our old place on the market for $700K. I about fell off my chair

Best recommendation for 8 people… 4 kids… to eat before the Morgan State game?

Trying to eat close to JPJ? I’d go Vivace (Italian) or Good Sport (upscale sports bar).

Vivace… is that the one near UHeights? Where is Good Sport?

Vivace is Ivy Road, yes. Good Sport is in The Forum which is the new Darden Hotel. There is also a more upscale restaurant in that same hotel called Birch and Bloom.

Sounds like I know where Dragon and Ms. Dragon are eating before the game.

Brazos Tacos has a Barracks Shopping Center location now, probably good for a crowd and kiddo-friendly.

I like Al Carbon Chicken for a big group and kids too, very casual but tasty.

Will second Vivace being great

Ok, this is probably heresy born from familiarity, but I think Vivace is only good. It nails the upscale family Italian thing and I’ve never eaten there and been disappointed. But I’ve also never eaten there and afterwards thought ā€œwow, that was amazingā€. ā€œGoodā€, sure. ā€œExcellentā€, no.
