With Buzz, the question seemed to be “would he stay?” With young, it seems to be, “can he recruit?” Jury’s still out, I guess. That central VA kid with the funky shot should have gone there.
You should see the levels of hubris on their boards now. They think they’re this up and coming powerhouse because of last year. A year in which the ACC was historically down and they got an 11 seed.
I get the feeling that Buzz, while an excellent coach, has a sell by date at every school before he sours with the University administration. Otherwise he’d be coaching at a better basketball school by now given his record of success.
He’s had a rough go so far at A&M. Awkward timing with the pandemic year last year, but he lost his best player, and got Radford and Coleman. Both seem like pretty good role players on good teams, but not enough to help you compete in a rising SEC on their own.
I think you’re right about Buzz’s sell by date. @Hooandtrue when Buzz was at VT that was the only time I truly feared a potential rise from the Hokies as a basketball power. At the time I was doing a lot of work with athletes at Paul VI in Fairfax and Buzz was around a lot recruiting etc. and he knew how to talk the talk. We’d rib each other since I’d often be in Virginia gear when we crossed paths. At the same time, I could also see how that talk could get old very quickly. He’s a good ol boy through and through and he’s not for everyone, definitely one of those situations where winning heals all wounds.
I’ll never be concerned about Tech basketball until they renovate or replace Cassell. Until then Buzz’s final year is the best they will ever do.
Buzz used to be on my list of coaches I dont like. But after learning few things about him I semi changed my tune
I think Buzz is great fun, and he’s someone I enjoy watching coach someone else’s team
He’s a weird dude but I respect his grind. Dude is self made as a coach. He didn’t have his father or mentor get his foot in the door the way a lot of other coaches did.
Think @PhonyBennett nailed it. Buzz is fun to watch when he’s not your headache. Like I said I actually enjoyed the guy in our interactions. But I could see how all of that could rub someone the wrong way after a while.
He reminded of that friend you have where it’s great to go out and have a wild night with them from time to time but if you did it every week you just get sick of pulling him out bar fights.
Count me in, also. My perception of him started to change while at VT.
He was also dropping bags
Florida “New Blood” State. LOL!

Staying instate with Texas Tech. Someone UVA looked at real hard according to @HoozGotNext Tony was front and center at a few of his games before deciding to go in another direction.

How about Muss picking up another five star guy? Dang. Folks had speculated he might go all in on the portal, but he’s got 9, 55, 91, 96 (247 composite) in the ‘22 class.
Instate kid but nonetheless a great pick up for him.
Edit: Arkansas team reacting to the commit.

They had a watch party with a filmed reaction for a recruit commitment? Haven’t seen that before.
Edit after continuing to watch: And they popped champagne? Wut?
It appears most of the scholarship players are not at this party. Mostly coaches and staff?
