I don’t think Beard was recruiting Nunez…
it’s better than other candidates that were mentioned. Tex Tech hasn’t been recruiting Nunez. Beard probably has someone different in mind. But it matters who he hires to his staff too, may end up with someone connected to Nunez.
And Beard tends to prefer bigger guards. Nunez is slight.
I wish that were always true. It wasn’t true for everyone where I played either - unrelated to my position. Most coaches almost always have 1 or 2 favorites and 1 or 2 non-favorites.
I am not really sure how you watch JAR pick up four fouls in eight minutes against Gonzaga and conclude that he should be getting more time
I get that he was coming off of injury and playing spot minutes after sitting on a bench for an hour+ is tough, but JAR looked slooowwww footed and slight. He needs a couple more years of strength and conditioning before making a meaningful impact anywhere at this level IMO.
This one would be huge!
I’m not really sure how you watch anyone against Gonzaga and conclude anything of value.
My conclusion had nothing to do with the Gonzaga game. It was about simply giving a very talented scorer a chance in meaningful spots throughout the year.
But there is no evidence he is actually a talented scorer at the collegiate level and there is evidence that he is a sieve on defense
Kyler Edwards from TT just hit the portal. 40% 3pt shooter. Might be worth a call
Are you serious? How can you say there was no evidence of O and there was evidence of no D? Have you ever played the game? Garbage time literally can measure no man - other than Kersey.
There was plenty of evidence of no D. Specifically: all those minutes he didn’t play. If he could play D, he wouldn’t have been on the bench. This much we can safely say.
Probably on his way to Texas.
Then why didn’t he play? I don’t buy Bennett didn’t play him for the sake of not playing him. If the kid could contribute, he would have been on the floor.
Do you know the defensive data from this year? If defense were the reason then Clark wouldn’t have played 36m per game - he plays much better D in 15m per game. Clark was the worst rotation player defensively by all major metrics.
I forgot it all comes back to Kihei
Has Kihei Clark done something to offend you?
Defensive metrics are useless
I don’t care what you think the data say about Clark and I don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish here.
Hell, I don’t even really disagree with some of your opinions. I would have liked to see Jabri get some run. My personal opinion is that Kihei plays too much.
But you seem to be mad at Tony for some reason and your commentary at this point suggest you think he’s incompetent, or worse that he is a bad guy because he plays favorites, and that has cost you the fan the opportunity to see Jabri take the program to new heights.
Some facts:
Coach wants to win.
Coach will play freshmen if they can contribute. Reece and Casey are recent examples. In their cases, they were good enough on defense to overcome a lack of offensive firepower.
Coach will also play guys with subpar defensive contributions if they more than offset it on the offensive end. See: Sam Hauser.
So to me a far more logical conclusion than “Tony is a moron and a jerk who had it out for Jabri and now he’s ruined the program” is “Jabri playing would have cost us games.”
Gotta imagine UVA is showing lots of Anthony Gill film to him. Maybe some select highlights of Dre attacking iso in the middle triangle offense.
