What usually goes behind the scenes and during practices we as fans just have no access to - our perceptions of how much offense a player can bring are sometimes based solely off his high school aau mixtapes or recruiting rankings.
In a few of the pregames shooting drills Bri was noticeably struggling at catch n shoot threes, though it’s very limited sample size
I think it’s dumb to speculate about Jabri other than Tony obviously wasn’t comfortable with him on the floor. None of us were privy to his practice time and can’t really evaluate what he did with the walkons in blowout situations.
Either side will have a full season of tape next year to be able to issue their “I told you so”.
I agree that Jabri at 15-20m a game in the first 10-15 games may have cost us a game or 2.
I also believe it could just have easily allowed us to be better by the madness and late in ACC play.
We’ll never know the answer. I’m simply a proponent of giving some talented guys a longer leash early to get them playing time and battle scars. Guy didn’t play much D at all his freshman year and still was 6th in min per game overall and 5th in ACC play. Jerome also got regular minutes that year.
It gave them valuable experience and gave them a chance over a larger sample size to show they could contribute.
I never name call - those are firmly your words and not mine.
Who cares, they weren’t on the same page. My gut tells me that JAR isn’t an effort guy and wasn’t completely bought in.
If he ends up at Georgia, that’s pretty laughable, lol. Also, not sure why some folks on the Nova board want to go after him. If CTB didn’t play him, I don’t think Jay Wright will either.
Further evidence that coach will play young guys who can contribute if the benefits outweigh the costs, which contradicts your narrative that Jabri was unfairly or inappropriately held back. Again, the reasonable conclusion here is that Jabri isn’t as good as you seem to think he is.
Could also be that there were issues with buy in on the offensive end as well.
Or maybe Jabri was very good, but there were other issues. Remember, Tony is a big Five Pillars guy. None of those pillars is “hit the jump shot” or “play the Packline.”
I have no idea how good he might be at the high D1 level - he was the same ranking as a recruit as Guy and better than all the others. Just wanted to see what he could do in games - that’s all. And I’m sure the year of draconian lockdowns on campus didn’t help any of these freshmen all over the country that had less than the ideal first year of college life.
It’s possible, but we don’t need to go there. I think we can just accept that Tony had a good reason not to play him. To suggest otherwise, to me, unfairly calls Tony into question when there is a ton of evidence to suggest he is perfectly willing to play guys when appropriate.
IU folks seem to be gaining a little confidence that Franklin will stay. Ugh
And the reason this argument is important to me is because I think this narrative that tony doesn’t play young guys or is unfair to or deprioritizes offensive talent is used against us all the time. And it is just false.
Exactly. I was as high as anyone on Jabri after he signed, but think we need to accept that he wasn’t what he was billed out to be by his recruiting profile and is moving on to an opportunity with more realistic playing time.
I’ll take a step back on all the on the floor stuff. This is why coaches coach.

I wonder if they’ll reach out to Gabe Kalscheur from Minnesota. He is in the Casey mold, solid defender, struggled on offense, especially this past year shooting the ball. Shot over 40% from 3 as a freshman, then 35% as a sophomore, and 25% last year. Doesn’t do a great job creating his own shot.
Sounds like the last thing we need
Haha, I kind of agree with you, but I’m curious about him if he can regain his freshman year shooting form
Freshman season was at the shorter line, correct?
Yep - last season with shorter line happened to be our title year - 2019 … coincidence???
That team wouldn’t have been impacted much by the longer line.
Or do you mean they changed it to impact us? I like that conspiracy.
