Rumored Big Man
There’s been heavy rumors over the past several days that Odom might be close to landing another of those out of nowhere commitments. The name being mentioned is Kansas State transfer center Ugonna Onyenso . We’re just waiting to see if anything comes of it.
A former top 40 ranked recruit, Onyenso played his first two seasons at Kentucky. He led the SEC with 2.8 blocked shots per game as a sophomore. That’s what he does best, one of the better rim protectors in college basketball. This year didn’t go well for him, posting modest stats in only 11 minutes per game on a disappointing Kansas State team. So, he’s on the move again with one year to play.
Bro needed to hydrate
I wonder why his minutes and production went way down, was he injured or something. I big drop off from Kentucky stats
Got excited for a second and then realized he needs to be granted a 5th year of eligibility
Third team must have swooped in!
Who logs the most minutes at the 4 spot next year?
- Tillis
- Someone else
I still think it’s someone else…
He liked it better when Nike made sure Duke got the best and their parents found affordable housing in the Durham area.
Lang is a good kid, and its kind of easy to make fun of him because he’s neither the best athlete in his family (that’s his sister who’s committed to playing volleyball at UVA) nor the tallest (his dad). In HS he was more focused on becoming an orthopedic surgeon than getting to the NBA (and probably more realistic), but he flirted with being a top 100 kid before eventually being a high 3* recruit and I dunno what his plans are now.
He’s tall, he’s smart, and he’s a strong post presence and rebounder, but he’s neither a plus athlete nor a shot blocker. If this team never manages to find a physically imposing 5 and the influx of new faces makes it hard for folks to gel, then I could see him carving out a rotational role. But there’s probably a better chance he just hangs out on the green team.
So…. Colin Ducharme, in a system closer to Gillen’s than Jones’.
UVA is the favorite to sign German big man Johann Grünloh:

Here is his NBA Draft profile with measurements/stats (19 years old, 6’9", 234 pounds, 8.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.8 bpg, 47.6% field goal percentage, 35.4% from 3, 72.4% FT percentage, projected to go 54th in the NBA Draft were he to go that route):
And here are some highlights:
That would be a nice front court pairing with the KState transfer. Plus you could go small with him and Tillis for a more offense focused line. Good development if it happens.
this is very big news
And huge congrats to the eurosleuths who kinda sorta pinpointed that Grunny was our guy like a week ago! Very impressive.
Grünloh comes from the north of Germany… wonder if he knows Frisian?
His name also means “Green Woods” in German. I think we’d really sayy “Meadow” in English for the same place though. Who drives up to a group of trees and says… “Look! we arrived at the Green Woods!” Only Germans.
@jazznutUVA what’s your pronunciation guide for his name?
It would be GROON - low … German is completely phonetic… so it won’t have the Houston, TX vs Houston Street problem.
Addendum… the R would not be a hard R… more in the back of your throat R.
another note… if you live in the TX area near Gruene, TX… they pronounce it like the English word Green… which is dumb. It is GROOOOOON damnit!
We are tying up a large chunk of our pre-House NIL into one year guys. Thin bridge to the past / thin bridge to the future. Decent chance we have to turn over a yuge chunk of minutes with just rev share to offer.
Now that could be a good strategy or it could be a bad strategy. If we miss the tourney, I’d say it was a bad strategy. If we make the sweet 16 or better: good strategy.
Lots of contingency, of course: could go to 5 years eligibility. House might be toothless. Could get more contributions from Lewis, Mallory, Gertrude, Barksdale, et al, than anticipated.
