Looks like more orange in the unis this year. I don’t remember orange outlines last year. (And that’s definitely the men’s jersey because it has the gold rectangle on the neck Nike puts there for its programs with a natty.)

EDIT: Never mind, we did have the orange outline last year. But the orange here seems to pop more.

Duke’s president’s name is Vincent Price? How perfect is that.

It didn’t even occur to me but damn, what a coincidence! LOL

I wanted to say something about Nigel, and about why I donated money to help him out.

Way back when Nigel was on the team, I took my family to watch Virginia play a holiday tournament at the Barclays Center. Virginia won the first game, and most of the players sat in the stands to watch the second game. My son – a huge Virginia fan – went over to say hello. And every single one of those players took the time to talk to him. To really engage with him. Sign autographs, take selfies, tell jokes. Nigel was especially generous with his time (as was Nigel’s mother, actually). But they all were exceedingly kind: Kyle, Ty, Jack … even Joe Harris, who was there as a spectator. Never once did they act like it was a bother or my son was an imposition.

You want to know what I love most about Virginia basketball? That’s it right there.

I never want us to be Duke. We dont have to be. A UVA education trumps 95% of any NIL deal a kid might get. We are a 40 yr proposition and the kind of kids we want will see that. With that approach we have won 5 regular season titles in the last 8 yrs, 2 ACC tourney championships, and a natty.

Remind me again … how many has Duke won… ?

are you saying the actual education in 4 years there - or the connections and open doors the degree affords?
And I am specifically asking about the majors/degrees a basketball kid pursues.
Not Pre-law or engineering or pre-med.

Edit … the reason I ask is there seems to be an outdated view of the value of a degree from a specific place … I’ve been a hiring manager at times, and interviewed a ton of times over the last 10 years… Never once has where I went to school surfaced. Never once was it asked when we were interviewing a candidate or did it even cross our minds. Really, it was about the quality of the person and their knowledge and experience.
Most of the roles required a degree but it could be from anywhere and could be in any major. In fact most resumes I’ve seen don’t even state a major.

P.S. … We did hire a few fresh out of college the last 3 years … a Penn State women’s hockey player, a UVA lacrosse player, another college athlete or 2 … generally we look for those with a competitive fire … so that helps on the resume for sure.

It depends a lot on what kind of business you’re in. We have a mix of lawyers and technical folks. Right out of school, where you went to law school or got your technical degree plus demonstrated interest in our type of work gets you an interview. Compatibility with our current work force based on the interview and references from professors and paying/volunteer jobs gets you an offer. For more experienced hires, work experience becomes much more important; though to be honest, not having a law or technical degree from a good school is still going to count against you. UVA>>Duke for lawyers. About the same for engineers for UVA, Duke or VT. Other technical degrees, UVA=Duke>VT. Other employers might differ on this ranking, other than the UVA law degree which outside of Harvard, Yale and Stanford is about as good as you can get.
