Determined by whether or not they gave me a job offer
It’s all about how long the firm name is
My favorite in Richmond has always been Allen Allen Allen & Allen… my joke was always that I was pulling for that 5th sibling to make partner one day!
Yep, RD has too much movement to be a sniper. Every ball from deep looks a little different coming off his hand. Keep working the reps young man!
Early in the year, but where does RD rank all time TB defenders? I think it’s undeniable he’s the best in their second year at UVA
Some of this might be apocryphal/ exaggerated, but here goes: have a friend whose dad was an attorney, and started a firm when he was younger. They bought or leased a building that had previously been an arcade or whatever. The name of it was Fun, Fun, Fun. So there was a pic of him and his partners posing under the Fun, Fun, Fun sign. I always thought they should have named the firm, Fun, Fun, & Fun, and just added the ampersand to the sign.
Unfair to the other guys. Off the list.
Assuming RD keeps up this pace of blocks and steals, which would easily put him in the top 10, if not at or near the top, for both in a season:
- Dunn
- Mitchell
- Brogdon
- Hunter
- Beekman
My list is heavy on versatility across positions, and also I give bonus points to Akil Mitchell for being the first great Bennett defender, and setting the standard and bringing attitude.
That Key, Diakite, Wilkins, and some others aren’t on here speaks to the amazing defenders we’ve had.
I am in the wrong area of law…by a WIDE margin.
#10 in steals for a season is Sean Singletary with 54. #10 in blocks is Chris Alexander with 54. Dunn currently has 20 blocks and 20 steals through 7 games, or 2.8/game for each. If he only does half of that per game the rest of the season (assuming minimum of 33 games), he’ll be in the Top 10 for each, which is unprecedented (for a guy to be in both lists). It’s more likely that he’ll be near the top 5 for each list. (Sampson holds the top 4 spots for blocks and is unreachable by a human being in the 3-point era).
Its funny, I have a buddy who went to law school while his wife worked and pursued family law. His wife then went to law school (at UVA) and fell in love with tax law. He was like “If one of us has to stay home to raise the kids, I guess that’ll be me.”
Edit - As a concluding note, they did have a son and he ended up hating actually practicing family law (as a clerk, it was great), so he was right. Now he’s a prosecutor.
If Dunn finishes the season with anything less than 100 of each, I’m crying foul.
Wilkins HAS to be top 5, and yet… I have no idea who I’d take off to put him there.
I mean he’s on pace for 94, and the record for steals is 73.
Sampson’s 157 [edit] blocks (4.6/game) his first year isn’t human.
Is that Hunter’s second year in the program or 2nd year playing? Cause I’d put 18-19 Hunter over 13-14 Brogdon. Probably ahead of 11-12 Mitchell too.
I love this particular comparison when it comes to blocks:
Diakite, career: 156
Sampson, first year: 157
against Gary the mailman and Swanson the carpenter?
Sampson couldn’t cut it in today’s age of streamers and memers.
Dont’ forget Atkins, he was national defensive player of the year his senior year
as was Dre I believe
I think Thybulle beat out Dre
I’m not sure how many actual Allens practice at the firm now, but back in the 90’s there were more than 4 Allen siblings and cousins working there at the same time. Off the top of my head, I can think of Ted, Clayton, Coleman, Beth, Courtney, and Edward. And I’m pretty sure old man Wilbur (who was from the previous generation; father to some of those above, uncle to others) was active for part of that decade as well. I’m pretty sure Edward and Courtney still show up in some of the ads, but the others are probably retired by now. As big of a punchline as the firm name is, if I were ever badly injured through another party’s negligence and that party had enough insurance coverage to make it worth their while, the Allens would be among the first calls I would make. Those folks know what they’re doing.
