⛹️‍♂️ Ryan Dunn - Official Thread

UVA as an on court product next year is inarguably better with Dunn. Potential NDPOY, and he made a big jump on offense from two years ago to last year believe it or not. I expect another big jump in his offensive skills by next March (which unfortunately he’ll be showcasing in the G League instead of at UVA).

While I wish you are correct the data is sketch at best. Dunn’s offensive stats increased due to his volume of mins but he didn’t really improve any of the basic metrics. I love the kid and wish him all the best, but he was a liability on offense that essentially left the team playing 4 v 5.

I think it’s insane to say Virginia is better off without one of the best defensive players in the country, and a first-round NBA draft pick.

RD only “clogged” the offense because the offense struggled so much everywhere else. You can win with 4 v. 5 on offense, if those 4 are good. Lots of teams do. Heck, we went 31-3 with Isaiah, and he scored less and shot worse than RD. The problem wasn’t that we were playing 4 v. 5. The problem is that were playing more like 2 1/2 v. 5.

Playing 3 vs. 5 or 4 vs. 5 is probably more our problem than getting the fewest possessions in P6.

Very true the ultimate problem was the construction/fit of the talents on the floor and to state the team will be better without RD is an oversimplification of the larger issue.

That said given what we know of the nxt year’s roster, Dunn’s shut down defense still likely would not be enough to move the needle on the team. And slotting in someone who is at least a scoring threat would likely be more beneficial.

I agree with both sides of this.

Is it crazy to say the best defender in college basketball not being back MIGHT help us? Yes. But do I still believe it? I kinda do.

If we get Jefferson, he provides hopefully 75% of Dunn’s defense and far more offensively. When you balance out the equation I think a more balanced player at the 4 is a net positive.

We want Dunn back because Perry, IMac, Eli, and Buchanan are going to all be bombing 3s from the Logo at a 45% clip next year

I was with you until you got to Blake.

Not my reading of the advanced stats at all:

He increased his usage by more than a third while increasing his ORtg by 8%. That combination qualifies as a massive jump to me!

If he gets rid of the yips on his shot next year, I don’t see how he doesn’t make another massive jump.

Edit: Can someone please embed this. Nice short profile on Dunn as a draft prospect. And how do I do it, so I don’t have to keep doing this? lol

For me, I use the YouTube app and hit the Share button. Then hit Copy link. Once on the forum, paste, and it should automatically embed.

He seems to be in the 20-40 range recently, and most recently in the 30-40 range. Maybe 20-30 if he shows out well in workouts? Good luck, RD.

40 on KOC’s big board. Think it’s a bit odd how KOC does big boards and mocks on the same day. I guess they are theoretically different, but not really…

Speaking of the Draft, I see a few “still on the fence” ACC players like Hunter Sallis, Baba Miller, and Jamir Watkins as fluid 2nd round types making for an interesting May for a couple coaches.

Also, with the rumors and discussions in the other thread, Cam Christie becomes an even more interesting name as he’s also an “on the fence” 2nd round-ish kind of guy.
