Sounds like good news. Lots of talk out there for Read and Keels. Not hearing as much chatter about Holmes though…Seems like we could be leading the way with him? Whats the latest speculation on Holmes? Is he at all close to a decision?
I wouldn’t expect Holmes to decide anytime soon. If they had Spring live periods, would have been more possible. It’s like they’re being robbed of their process. Hard to ask someone like Holmes that hasn’t had much exposure to make a decision before getting his chance on the big stage. UVA’s definitely up there with him though. Arizona I guess is the biggest threat. Kansas came around late in the year. Bill Self is the Buzz Williams of blue blood recruiters. Offers early, then waits and chooses who to actually recruit. Looks like Holmes is the choice right now. Texas Tech is involved. UCLA and USC.
It’s gonna be a long few months of no news and no change. I’m just hoping for a July live period at this point. I expect this 2021 cycle is going to go longer no matter what. September might be the new July in terms of evaluations. Probably a lot of them will opt to sign late. Will be more important than ever to have sources they can depend on, regional scouting services and such. They won’t have time to see many new players.

Does a longer cycle hurt us then? I know we were hoping to end things early with Reid and Keels. I initially thought this would help if they stuck to their initial timelines

I don’t think it matters that much with those guys. Probably helps a little with Reid, hurts a little with Keels. They both have stable recruitments. They didn’t expect anything to change in April. With Keels, live periods would have helped because TB would have staked out his games and made it clear who wanted him the most. Every coach tells them they’re the priority. The live periods make them prove it.
I still think if Reid picks UVA it’ll be before things resume.. Keels has been more deliberate about planning things out. Looked like he was setting up a pre-July ending with Spring officials to UNC and Villanova. My guess is he’ll wait to take those trips whenever it’s allowed. Probably a 3 team race with UVA and those 2.

Arizona will finally get punished by NCAA making them less attractive to a guy with NBA hopes. Kansas too will get punished…Im liking our chances with Holmes when its all said and done…Watson could be the one to eliminate Holmes if he waits too late to sign…Im hearing his interest in UVA is very legit.

When will they get around to punishing Arizona and Kansas. From what I heard both schools should be in big trouble

Duke is in it with Keels. I just don’t think they’re as big a threat as the others. Could be wrong. The usual rules don’t apply to them.

That sounds good. I was reading 247 about Villanova targets for 2021. They are recruiting another big guard Jordan Longino who has a crystal ball pick for Villanova

@HoozGotNext do you know anything about him, Reid, or any of our other guys having a commitment date or at least narrowing down the list?
Reid did say he’d probably put out a list soon. Would expect it to be just the schools everybody knows is involved anyway. With everything frozen it doesn’t much matter until September. It’s not like we have a next group of recruits we have to move on to. Without events or coaches out recruiting, there’s no reason for them to hold out but also no pressure whatsoever.

I love seeing Keels wearing that UVA National Champions hoody. Guess you cant read into it too much…but it certainly is not a bad sign…I would really cringe if I saw him in a UNC jersey.

Nobody really knows what to expect with everything happening. I’ll say this though. Anybody that can get the majority of their 2021 recruiting done before September when the recruiting period opens back up will have a big advantage in 2022. Everything will be pushed back. Coaches will be doing their usual summer 2021 evaluations next Fall. If Bennett can be starting on 2022 as he usually would with assistants out mining for gems, it’s just huge.
