Summer Recruiting

Again we are probably not going to recruit him even though he is on our radar but man Amani Hansberry would make so much sense here.

When you look at Isaac squared, Bond, Dunn + hypothetical of TJ Power, Blake Buchanan, Dilione, Kaiser, the one thing missing is someone to throw it down to in the low post during that 5 minute scoring drought. Hansberry’s body movements in the post are so similar to Jayden Gardner but he’s taller, a little more mobile and athletic, and is shooting 3s out of HS. Also those assist numbers are better than most point guards in the Nike EYBL. If there was a way to reclass and redshirt him with the last 2022 schollie. He’s a Draymond Green type and its clear why at least Villanova is seeing him as their possible future center.

Also the mix and match front court options between Traudt, Amani, Power, Buchanan, and even Bond would be crazy. So much play making in the front court.

TJ Power vs Kaleb Glenn on court 4. Glenn is a dawg man.

Also TJ Power is a legit 6’8/6’9. He has an inch or two on “6’7” Justin Edwards yesterday and has that same height advantage on Kaleb Glenn

Man TJ Power is an elite passer. Maybe @Gna2r had it right. Play him as the pg, which means we can prioritize that bucket getting lead guard like Dilione. These passes. On the flip side, Glenn is playing some shutdown D on Power. Power settling a little too much vs Glenn’s physicality but has had some nice moments of probing in the post leading to nice passes. And the trend of his teammates missing him on those open Murphy/Hauser kick out 3s is frustrating lol.

The Purdue commit on Glenn’s team is legit. And Reid Ducharme is still a chucker lol. Fire the assistant that put him on our radar (just kidding… sorta).

Back to back 3s for TJ Power. Starting to assert himself more (that last 3 was text book Hauser catching the ball with back to the basket, turn around and pull up). Also contesting a lot of shots and making life difficult at the rim for the other team even if he isn’t necessarily a shot blocker.

10 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists but should be like 8 assists.(as I type this another assist and excuse my language but god damn these are some dimes. Not the typical passes you see in aau).

11pts, 6 rebounds, 6 assists (should be 10+), 2/3 from 3pt for TJ Power.

In the team takeover game Isaiah Abraham again showing he is better than Darren Harris and probably is the highest ceiling player in Virginia out of both 2023 and 2024. That Deshawn Harris Smith kid who is going to Villanova is putting up numbers but doesn’t shoot 3s and idk about his potential.

Edit: saw Isaiah Abraham is now ranked on 247. Figure Georgetown will be a factor with
his dad (or is it his mom) being a Georgetown women’s bball assistant.

Thanks for all of these recaps. I really appreciate the evaluations as I would be sleeping in the garage if I tried to watch all of these games myself.

You’re not missing much. The summary so far is TJ Power = Good.

Still find it interesting Jack Salt is also in Louisville. Even if it is coincidence I hope he atleast gets a last word in to Tafara since they know eachother.

Elijah Gertrude is a really good scoring guard. Not sure if he is a pg or if that is something he shows better during the scholastic period. UNC’s Simeon Wilcher is on the team now so he’s probably going to be playing combo guard.

On the other team, Momcilovic with another stinker. Im sure he will be great somewhere but I dont see the fit at UVA.

Noticed in another game Edgerrin James again on pace to drop 9-10 assists. The complete opposite of a bucket getter though (he can score if needed, but more like Reece where he is first looking to set up teammates).

Edit: also holy hell Elijah Gertrude is athletic. Wilcher just threw him a lob and Gertrude threw it down on that big.

Power: “showcasing his toughness on the glass and on the defensive end.”

Gives me some hope he could be more of a 2 way player than Hauser was

Coincidence as im watching Elijah Gertrude (this article just popped up on twitter from Eric Bossi)

“He hasn’t been offered by Virginia just yet but is planning to visit in early June and it won’t be a surprise if he scores that offer while visiting. He’s been to Rutgers and is also planning to see St. John’s and Seton Hall soon as well. Bottom line, he looks to be on the come up.”

Something makes me think Rutgers for him… When we offer Fresh will go in though!

Stuff your son’s backpack with wads of cash for the lockerroom handoffs.

Sorry Kyle but that LRA hoodie belongs to Elijah now!

Dilione>Gertrude>Young is my preference for the first guard spot from what I’ve seen/heard. Honestly I don’t think any of them fit particularly well as a true PG in our system, but I do appreciate that Tony and the staff have identified above all else we need guys who can shoot and create offense off the dribble at the 1-3 spots, as that is very clearly a priority based on what we’ve seen so far this cycle.

yup lol

Overtime

Going into Overtime

Milan Momcilovic: 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. 9-20 from the field, 3-8 from 3.

Elijah Gertrude: 14 pts, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 4-7 from the field, 3-3 from 3

Going on eye test. TJ Power is way better than Milan even if the points are better for Milan. If TJ has Milan’s teammates (better ball movement, an actual center to play next to instead of being the tallest on the team) as well as Milan’s number of shot attempts, he would be a top 20 recruit lol.

Milan Momcilovic = Brady Manek. Struggles defensively sometimes and with mobility but can really shoot it and exploit size mismatches.

Momcilovic misses the 3 with 6 seconds left of overtime (down 4) and City Rocks tosses it down to the other end for an Elijah Gertrude throw down. Surprisingly no fists thrown in the handshake line after that lol.

2pm: Court 3 TJ Power vs random Chicago kids. (looks like the previous game is going over)

Getiing random looks from the lifeguard why Im at the pool cafe and staring at my computer instead of enjoying the sun or the cool water on a Sunny Sunday afternoon. Because TJ Power is playing obviously.
