CFB ia fine. Just drop the bowls. Theyāre all bad cash grabs at best. But bring nothing to the on the field product.
This is America we donāt do consolation prizes.

I mean weāre coming off a season where the national champion was the 8 seed in the playoffs. You can argue that thereās only a handful of title contenders every year but getting a committee to agree who those 2-3 teams are is near impossible, which was the inherent problem with the four team playoff. Teams who looked like they could compete for a title were getting left out entirely.
I think the point should be to keep as many people/fanbases engaged with the sport as possible within reason.
I always thought 8 was the right number for college football. 5 power conference winners plus 3 others selected by some computer metric with one spot reserved for a non power team that was like at least top 15 or whatever.
But then Sankey and Manifest Delaney ruined everything with their short term winner take all dumbass thinking.
3 games seems right. 4 seems like too many
Thatās the issue with the 4 team format in a 126ish team league with little to no cross tabs to compare everyone. It widdles things down too far on too few data points.
Iām fine with 12 it kind of catches enough. I think if you go beyond that the talent pool gets too thin.
I donāt believe fans actually want upsets especially the closer you get to the championship.
They could move the bowls to the beginning of the season and then they matter. Basically become footballās version of bballās MTEs. Us going to Brazil, the Ireland game, they might as well be bowls anyway. Invites could be tied to the previous season or not. Probably doesnāt matter. Just spit balling.
This idea has actually been thrown around as a possibility, not just as a throwaway.
I mean, who doesnāt want to go to Shreveport at the end of August?!
Iāve seen that idea as well and it alligns with the idea start the season week 0. Move everything up and open the playoffs during Army Navy week.
Better than Shreveport on Dec 7
Glad thereās an alternate reality where Iām sweating my balls off rather than freezing my ass off in Annapolis for the military bowl.
But seriously, Iād support early season bowls.
We can mess with the autobids if people want, but 12 is the perfect number IMO. Big enough that a 2017 UCF that wins every game doesnāt get left out. Small enough that you arenāt going to get a team that lost three regular season games.
Mizzou is playing without its QB and a RB who put up 1,500 yardsā¦.
I donāt think Hardy has opted out unless I missed something.
I think under the 4 team format you could point to a dozen teams that could get hot and win 2 games. But under a 12+ team format, thereās only a handful of teams that can beat 3-4 top 10 level opponents in a row.
I think we can agree that thereās never a good time to find yourself in Shreveport
Maybe you could. I cannot.
We need to get to a system where weāre officially (rather than unofficially) paying the players to play. So thereās a financial/contractual cost to a player opting out of a bowl game.
I like bowl games cuz I like football.
Why do you keep saying this. Hardy has not opted out? Also their coach said they had no opt outs on defensive. One starter did get hurt and is lit from their last game.
Think we are going to have some major issues in the trenches.
