Jersey City’s past 2 marathon winners are from Chrlottesville. Coincidence? Will Norris yesterday and Noah Gade last year

Pretty cool

Random… Also marathons 3/4 sport I’ll put it ahead of swimming and golf. I can golf and swim I can’t run a marathon so it gets a bump.

But marathons are last in a 3 way race of sports I would actually watch.

All fair. Any sport where no one guards you is basically bowling

Even Marathoners wouldn’t watch one–2+ hours of someone running is like watching a screen saver but probably less entertaining

What would you recommend now? I couldn’t take something called NO xplode anyway because it sounds too much like something for diffusing bombs.

Heh unfortunately every pre-workout has some stupid pun of a name. The question about what would I recommend currently is a bit tricky because it comes down to what are the results you want from your pre-workout, what type of training will you be doing. Those are factors that could determine what is the best choice for you.

In general all pre-workouts have some combination of caffeine, Beta-Alanine and Citruline.

Caffeine is self explanatory what it does and doses run from 125mg - 500mg is the most I’ve seen. I don’t worry about this so much the dosage doesn’t seem to affect me much one way or another.

Beta-Alanine is a compound that helps fight muscle fatigue and is considered directly associated to increased performance. It’s also the thing that gives you that ā€œtingly feelingā€ some people experience with pre-workout. I really like that feeling and the burst I get from it and I like powders that have a medium to high dosage of Beta-Alanine.

Citruline boost nitrous oxide performance which increases blood flow. Generally this will help to increase work capacity. Some compounds have a ton of this because it helps you feel a ā€œpumpā€ which some people (body builders) really enjoy

Personally as I prep for my upcoming comp I’ve enjoyed using Pre-Kaged from Kaged nutrition. I prefer Kaged products because they are 3rd party tested and generally clean (no animal biproducts or strange additives) and they are very effective. In addition to having a high dose of Beta-Alanine it includes some powder coconut water for hydration and a bunch of Vitamin B.

I will also toss in some Lit AF from Beyond Raw. This is more of a typical commercial grade pre-workout. Think of it as the madness juice. It has about 300mg of caffeine and a ton of Beta-Alanine along with some Creatine which is nice if you’re not already supplementing with something else.

There are a ton of other products that are similar to Lit AF basically everything you find at a GNC has a similar make up. If you want to go a bit harder but still have it tested and clean then I also recommend Transparent Labs which makes great products and breaks their pre-workout down by purpose Lean, Bulk, Stim Free, Stim Plus etc.

Anyways that’s my long winded nerdy answer on pre-workout. Stay tuned til next time where I cover Lactate Clearence

So in Germany, at halftime of my football (soccer for you heathens) games, most of my teammates would pop dextrose pills.

My brother-in-law recommended Karbolyn to my son as an alternative to dextrose pills… said it was better than them. I have not confirmed/corroborated.

My problem with dextrose was it jacked you up for about 10-15 minutes… then you crashed hard. So if a half is 45 minutes… w.t.f.? Never made sense to me.

Any opinions on US version of dextrose or any opinions on Karbolyn or any other dextrose alternative?

The closest thing that I am familiar with o
Is Carb by transparent labs that a lot of strongman use for intra workout carbs.

For a full soccer half its tough 45 mins is a long time. I usually rely on a honey sandwich at half time or a pop tart as a poor mans version. Takes a little longer to breakdown so you don’t get the crash.

I’m a big fan of sour patch kids too during my sessions which last abour 3 hrs. Nice surgar boost but again takes a while to hit and come down.

The pic above is of smelling salts so those are instant short blast insanity

Maybe just carb gels/chews? I think I’ve seen soccer teams use SIS ones (and lots of endurance sport athletes use that or similar ones), but there’s a lot of different brands that make these:

They built the whole gym out of squat/bench racks (3rd pic):

Honestly that’s all you need. Most gyms I train in including the Lair are predominantly racks.

Oh yeah. Just makes me envious, thinking about my bougie ā€œfitness centerā€ and its total of 6 racks (used to be 3 in the not so distant past).

6 is actually impressive for your generic fitness center/big box gym. Before I opened the Dragon’s Lair, I trained out of Atlanta Barbell and they have 22 racks/squat stands all on their own platform. It’s like heaven for a lifter. Outside of a teams facility I’ve never seen anything like that.
