The Elliott Era begins

I congratulate Ms. Griffin on her incredible success.

Side note - is she single?

Does this $40 million make any difference in the Manning recruitment?

She’s married to a hedge fund billionaire.

What would be the best use of the $40 million?

  • Invest in facilities and whatever benefits the UVA Brand
  • $10 million to Julian Phillips, $10 million to Cam Whitmore, $19.5 million to Arch Manning. $500k to everyone else

My opinion it has to be facilities because who knows *how long Julian and Cam will stay. We pay them ALOT of money for ONE year and then they go pro? I don’t think that’s a good return on investment. On the other hand we *save that money and build our teams with the 50-125 ranking players, and then sprinkle in good transfer, but atleast have a foundation of good players every year.

We get Cam Whitmore and Julian Phillips along with our 2022 class and Reece Kadin Jayden and Armaan and we win a national title. The brand recognition and program growth the following years worth more than $40 million.

And that doesn’t even include the Arch Manning aspect and how our football program would explode with his commitment lol.

I do think you are thinking rationally @Gna2r . But we just got handed $40 million in poker chips. Lets dream a little LOL

I kind of feel like $1 million to cam and Julian and then telling them that there is an additional $8-10$ million in basketball money floating around for player development would be enough to swing them.

On second thought, give 6 guys (2 in each of the next 3 classes) a million bucks, then take $10 million and give it to the basketball program to use for all sorts of player promotion and development (bring in the best trainers and fly the players out to all the biggest events). Take $4 million and split it with everyone on the roster now. The other 20, give $7.5 to Arch and say he can use $2.5 to pick out some other players. $5 million split amongst the current guys, and then $5 million to general football program funding.

Hey @Hooandtrue , I like your idea of dreaming, so we can split the difference…I just can’t get my head around paying these guys 1 million dollars, and damn sure not 10 million, but I just may be out of touch with what NIL deals are going for. It seems like Oscar T, getting a 2 million dollar deal for 1 year?(I think) its kind of amazing. So I *suppose a million for each would be okay… For Arch Manning, I’m not sure at this point…

I think another compromise would be spending a chunk on “player promotion.” In other words, have a real crew follow the hoops team around in Italy for photos and videos. Have someone facilitate big events for the football team. If we could get all of our football/hoops player 20 or 30 thousand more Instagram subscribers, it would be worth real money to them.

I will also say that if we are able to build our teams with 50-125 players and transfer players then the NIL for them will go ALOT further, AND they will likely stay around for 2-4 year and develop in TB’s system.

Not tryin to hear that B

95/5 facilities would still be 2 mil for NIL. Our value prop isn’t NIL it’s our coaches, so I think providing some* as opposed to none would be huge. And obviously facilities are the hump we most desperately need to get over

Question is whats the minimum needed to “endow” NIL? 5-10 million? 2 be gone real fast

My brotha, of course you knew where I was going there.

If you assume 8-10% annual returns on the endowment, I would assume you’d need 10-12x what you’d want to disburse each year, so you wouldn’t hit principal. So if $1-2M you’d need $10-20M (approximately) Lots of caveats (like fees, how you want to handle inflation, etc.) but ballpark-y.

Take the 40 mil - invest wisely in great mutual funds returning 4-5 mil a year … use that 4-5 mil each year for NIL and never carve into the principal

Ha. If we assume 10-12% annual returns forever then not many people would need to work after a certain age… no clue where to get 10-12 percent with no real risk
